Amazon Great Indian Festival 2022 Sees Hikes

Amazon India has seen the highest growth in this festive season sales. The e-commerce had 80 per cent of the buyers from Tier 2 and beyond towns. Moreover, the Mobiles and accessories had strong double-digit growth this season in comparison to Amazon Great Indian Festival(AGIF), 2021. While 5 times higher compared to average business days. 80 per cent of customers were from Tier 2 and 3 cities.

However, the company did not reveal details of the overall sales of AGIF 2022. Vice President Manish Tiwary commented “it has been the best-ever festival sale” for the company.

Tiwary even stated that “More than 35,000 sellers saw their highest-ever single-day sales. Over 650 sellers became crorepatis (over Rs. 1 crore sales) and 23,000 sellers became lakh patis (over Rs. 1 lakh sales)”.

The company even claims that it has seen participation from 11 lakh sellers, that includes 2 lakh local stores. The online festive sale was dominated by mobile phones. Also, Amazon traced the craze for 5G smartphones.

It has even seen a strong uptake in the mid-range price segment. That includes 80 per cent sell in sub-Rs. 15,000 category.

“More than 10 lakhs customers bought smartphones for the first time on Amazon. Customers preferred brands were Xiaomi, Samsung (M Series), Realme, iQOO, OnePlus and Apple,” Amazon said in the festive season sales report.

While 1.5 million new customers purchased from Amazon Fashion and Beauty. It includes more than 85 per cent from Tier 2 cities and beyond.

The buyers used credit cards for purchasing products on Amazon. Tiwary on this said that “Overall credit card (including CBCC and EMI) has the highest transaction share (47 per cent) — so overall credit card was the most preferred option for shopping on Amazon during GIF, with every 1 in 2 transactions on a credit card”.

As per the data, every 8 out of 10 customers had access to credit through products like Amazon Pay Later, debit card EMI, credit card EMI, NBFC EMI and others.

“1 out 4 purchases were done on EMI and 3 out of 4 EMI purchases had recorded No cost EMI. The Amazon Pay Later registrations saw a hike by 4 times this festive season versus the average business day. There were 6.5 lakh registrations during GIF 2022, Amazon Pay Later crossed the milestone of 6 million registrations,” the report said.
