Galaxy AI Unveiled: Features, Availability & More

Samsung recently launched its flagship S24 series at the Galaxy Unpacked event. The Galaxy S24 series includes the Samsung Galaxy S24, Samsung Galaxy S24 Plus and the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra.

All three phones come packed with AI features thanks to the new Galaxy AI on board. Samsung has revealed Galaxy AI will also arrive on older devices, and here’s everything you need to know about it.

Samsung Galaxy AI Debuts With S24 Series

The Galaxy AI offers plenty of on-device AI features such as Circle To Search, Live Translate, Generative Fill and more. Samsung claims these features enhance the productivity of users in everyday life.

First is the Live translation feature that can translate voices and text in real-time. It works in the Samsung Phone app and the Messages app.

There is also an Interpreter mode that can show live conversations in a split screen mode so people standing next to each other can read a text transcription of the conversation. This feature works without Wi-Fi or cellular data.

Another Galaxy AI feature is Circle to Google search, which can display results from Google Search for any text or image. To activate it, long-press the home button and circle any object to ask Google about it. For example, you can check which shirt Orry is wearing just by highlighting his latest post on Instagram.

There is also a Chat Assist feature, which can ensure that your conversation sounds professional to your co-workers or catchy enough for an Instagram caption. Furthermore, the Samsung keyboard can translate messages in 13 languages in real time.

In addition, you also get features like Note Assist, which can generate an AI summary of a long note, allowing you to get the essential bits. Similarly, Transcript Assist can utilize Galaxy AI to transcribe, summarize, and translate voice recordings.

Android Auto can also show a summary of incoming messages apart from suggesting relevant replies, allowing you to stay focused on the move. In addition, the S24 series also brings ProVisual Engine for better photography capabilities.

These are a comprehensive set of AI tools that allow users to erase, re-compose or remaster an image. Moreover, features like edit suggestions can offer tweaks for each photograph.

Generative Fill allows you to fill an empty part of an incomplete image using Generative AI. Using Galaxy AI, you can also remove shadows, objects and reflections from a photo.

In addition, there is also the option to add blur or move the subject around in an image. Samsung also states the phone will add a watermark and metadata on every AI image.

Furthermore, the Instant Slow-mo feature can create slow-motion videos from a normal video, allowing you to get a closer look at the video. There is also support for SuperHDR preview before you click a photo.

Samsung claims even third-party apps like Instagram can take advantage of Galaxy AI features such as SuperHDR. Galaxy AI is based on Google’s Gemini Nano for on-device operations and Gemini Pro for cloud-based AI tasks.

Furthermore, the company promises to bring Galaxy AI to older phones apart from the S24 series. These features will be free until 2025 on supported devices, but the company will start charging for them.
