X has announced the discontinuation of its Communities feature, effective May 6, 2026, citing declining user engagement. The feature, which enabled users to participate in topic-based group discussions, will be replaced by enhanced messaging capabilities.
As part of this transition, X has upgraded its XChat functionality, introducing public, shareable group chat links that allow users to join conversations instantly without invitations. Currently supporting up to 350 members per chat, with plans for expansion, the move reflects X’s strategic shift toward real-time, dynamic interactions.
