The WhatsApp iOS messages testing program is expanding as the messaging platform begins testing its scheduled messages feature with more iPhone users. The feature allows users to write messages in advance and choose when WhatsApp should send them automatically. After starting beta testing on Android earlier this month, WhatsApp is now rolling out the feature to some iOS beta testers through Apple's TestFlight platform. The update could make it easier for users to send birthday wishes, reminders and work messages at the right time without having to remember to send them manually.

The scheduled messages feature is available to some users running WhatsApp beta for iOS version 26.42.10.19. WhatsApp plans to expand access to more beta testers over the coming weeks.

Using the feature is simple. Users can type a message, tap and hold the send button, select a date and time, and confirm the schedule using the green button. WhatsApp will then send the message at the selected time, even if the user's device is offline.

Here are the key details of the feature:

    • Scheduling window: Users can schedule messages from 10 minutes ahead to two weeks in advance.
    • Supported content: Text, links, photos and videos.
    • Media limit: Users can schedule one photo or video per message.
    • Privacy: Scheduled messages remain end to end encrypted.
    • Message management: Users can view scheduled messages in a dedicated section within the chat information screen and delete them before delivery.

The scheduled message confirmation appears only to the sender. Recipients will not receive a notification if the sender deletes a scheduled message before it goes out.

WhatsApp has also included specific rules for scheduled messages in group conversations. A scheduled message will reach only those members who belonged to the group when the sender created the schedule. People who join the group later will not receive that message.

This feature could be useful for coordinating meetings, sharing reminders and planning group activities without sending messages immediately.

However, WhatsApp has not announced an official date for the public release. The company is still testing the feature on both Android and iOS, and it may take several more weeks before it becomes available to all users.

For now, iPhone users who do not have access to the beta feature will need to wait for a wider rollout.
