Boasting an eye-catching design, Oppo R17 is love at first sight. It features a 6.4 OLED screen with a resolution of 1080 x 2280 pixels (394 PPI). It has a Tru-Octa Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 670 processor paired with 8 GB of RAM and runs on Android v8.1 (Oreo) operating system. Talk about power!
The phone comes with a 3415 mAh battery. As for the cameras, it sports a dual camera setup with 16MP+ 5MP rear cameras, while the selfie camera is a whopping 25MP! Apart from this, Oppo R17 also features other sensors including Accelerometer, Ambient Light Sensor, Gyroscope, Proximity Sensor, and an in-display Fingerprint sensor.
Oppo R17 comes in two colour variants – Neon Purple and Streaming Blue. While the Neon Purple colour boasts of a horizontal three-colour gradient, the Streaming Blue supports four-direction gradient (up, down, left, and right).
In India, the price of the Oppo R17 starts from around Rs. 29,000.
Just like its previous-gen phones, OPPO R17 sports a glass body, both in front and at the back, with the only difference being that the rear design is termed as the ‘big bang.’ On the back, there’s a dual-camera setup aligned vertically. Although there’s no fingerprint sensor at the back, it has been incorporated within the screen. As for the buttons, the power button and the SIM tray are on the right side and the volume buttons on the left. The phone also features a 3.5mm headphone jack at the bottom along with a USB Type-C port.
In the earlier range of smartphones, a ‘full screen’ would denote an aspect ratio of 18:9. However, Oppo R17 takes the full screen to a whole other level. As we said, it features the Waterdrop Screen wherein the design of the non-display area of the screen is based on the idea of a ‘water drop’ in the natural state, thereby exhibiting a screen transition of water droplets. Impressive, right?
The OPPO R17 has a 6.4-inch OLED display with an aspect ratio of 19.5:9. The screen is protected by the sixth-gen Corning Gorilla Glass which is way more robust than the earlier versions of Gorilla Glass. All the traditional sensor elements have been cleverly hidden within the screen’s interface. For instance, the earpiece and the light distance sensor are hidden within the top border of the screen.
While the Oppo R11 series first featured the Snapdragon 660 processor, in the Oppo R17, the Chinese company chose to pioneer the way with Snapdragon 670 combined with an 8GB LPDDR4X memory and a 128GB UFS2.1 storage. While the CPU uses the Kryo 360 core, the GPU uses Adreno 616 core set on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 670,
Oppo R17 has an octa-core processor (a 2.0GHz dual-core Kryo 360 and 1.7GHz, hexa-core Kryo 360). One thing to note about the memory of the phone is that it does not support memory expansion via microSD card.
Oppo R17 runs on Color OS 5.2, which is based on Android 8.1. Overall, the powerful processor combined with Adreno 615 GPU and a massive 8GB RAM promises a smooth, seamless, and lag-free experience.
Cameras have always been a strong selling point for Oppo phones, and R17 is no exception. On the back, it has a dual camera module – 16MP + 5MP with Sony IMX519 sensor and an f/1.7 aperture. On the other hand, the front camera is 25MP with Sony IMX576 sensor and an f/2.0 aperture.
Oppo R17 has an enhanced imaging technology, thanks to RAW HDR. Since this technology uses data for synthesis processing, the final shots are rich with details. The front camera uses AI tech which offers an array of useful features like AI scene recognition, AI smart beauty, AR photo, O-moji, and much more. Both the cameras are capable of clicking amazing and vibrant images, allowing you to tweak the white balance and colour for a more realistic range. In low-light settings and night scenes, the large aperture helps in taking some outstanding shots with clarity.
Oppo R17 has a 3,500mAh Li-Polymer battery with a VOOC flash charge support. Theoretically, the battery should perform very well, given that the phone features the Snapdragon 670 mobile platform with a 10nm technology, however, in the real world, Oppo R17’s charge wouldn’t last a full day for heavy gaming, online streaming, or browsing tasks. Maybe, for moderate usage such as using social media apps, and some light browsing, the battery will be able to pull through a day. The good thing is that it supports super-fast charging, and it can get wholly charged in a jiffy.
Connectivity options include Wi-Fi, GPS, Mobile Hotspot, Bluetooth v5.0, 2G, 3G, 4G voLTE, and USB Type-C. As mentioned above, it has sensors including Accelerometer, Ambient Light Sensor, Gyroscope, Proximity Sensor, and an in-display Fingerprint sensor.
To sum up, Oppo R17 packs all the essential ingredients that make it the ideal flagship device. With unique features like the Waterdrop Screen, in-screen fingerprint sensor, a robust processor, and amazing cameras, this phone is worth a shot!
