  • Review Summary

Redmi launched the Redmi Turbo 5 in India in the mid-range category, which was launched in China earlier. This is the first time Redmi has brought the Turbo series to India; previously, it was exclusive to the Chinese market. The Redmi Turbo 5 is almost a rebranded version of the Poco X8 Pro, which I already used.

As we all know, due to rising prices of RAM and other smartphone components, it has become hard for phone companies to keep prices reasonable in the market. The Redmi Turbo 5 has many strong features, and the brand offered it at a very low price. This makes it cheaper than many similar products from other brands. So, let’s read my quick Redmi Turbo 5 review for more details.

Redmi Turbo 5 Design and Build

I liked the Redmi Turbo 5’s design very much, especially since I’m using its white-and-red colour combination, which looks more eye-catching. That’s why you will see a red circle around the camera deck and the power buttons, along with bold red Redmi branding on the underside of the body.

    Redmi Turbo 5 design

Its overall design is close to Poco X8 Pro. The phone has flat sides and round corners like most new smartphones. On the back, there is a vertical line that makes it look different.

    back design

The Redmi Turbo 5 is a solid phone. It has glass on the front and back, and an aluminium frame around the sides. This phone is also very good at resisting dust and water, with ratings like IP66, IP68, IP69, and IP69K. This means it can handle tough conditions well.

    side

One cool feature is the LED rings around the two cameras on the back. These rings can light up and flash for different purposes, such as reminding you of calls, adding effects while playing games, or showing music playback. You can change the colours of the lights or turn them off completely.

    LED lights

However, the lights are mostly visible only when the phone is lying face down and not in use. So, their usefulness is a bit limited, but they can be fun to use. During the Redmi Turbo 5 review, I especially enjoyed the lights flashing to the beat of the music.

    top

Moving on to the ports, the top of the device has a secondary speaker and an IR Blaster.

    bottom

On the right side of the phone are the power and volume buttons. You will find a Type-C slot, speaker grill, a microphone and a SIM tray at the bottom.

    Redmi Turbo 5 Camera

Redmi Turbo 5 delivers excellent camera performance in almost every condition. This phone comes with a 50MP wide-angle and 8MP ultrawide sensor.

    Redmi Turbo 5 camera

Colours are great, depth is fine, and resolution is also good. The camera has a good range of light it can capture, but in scenes with very bright and very dark areas, it has some difficulty keeping details clear in both the bright and dark parts.

    camera sample

A quick comparison I will put here: a few months back, I used the Redmi Note 15 Pro and found that this phone is better in a few settings, like when you are capturing at 2x in normal mode and 1x in portrait mode. Note that there is no 2x zoom in portrait mode.

    back camera sample

Just one thing Redmi can do better: add a better ultrawide sensor. Currently, it only has an 8MP ultra-wide sensor, which, in terms of colour, struggles to capture better details.

    Ultrawide

This is a quick Redmi Turbo 5 camera review after a few days of use. If you want a detailed review, just comment below, and I will share one.

    camera sample

The front camera is equally impressive with a 20MP sensor. It captures good facial details with natural-looking skin tones, and its dynamic range is sufficient to handle challenging lighting conditions. Whether it’s selfies or video calls, the output remains sharp and well-balanced.

    front camera

When it comes to videos, the Redmi Turbo 5 delivers stable footage with good colour and exposure control. You can record 4K videos at 30 fps with the rear camera and 1080p videos at 30 fps with the front camera.

    rear camera

The focus locks quickly, and the quality is more than sufficient for everyday moments, travel clips, and even casual social media content creation.

Redmi Turbo 5 Battery and Charging

Redmi Turbo 5 battery quality is also impressive. This phone packs a 7,540 mAh battery for long-lasting battery life. During the Redmi Turbo 5 review, I got almost 8.5 hours of screen time with moderate use while playing multiple BGMI games straight, then I got 7 hours of screen time.

    Redmi Turbo 5. battery

Usually, you will get 2.5 to 3 days of battery life on a single charge. But it totally depend how you use the phone, like lightly or heavily.

    charger

This phone also comes with a powerful 100W fast charger that fully charges the battery in 65 minutes. A giant battery and a powerful charger make for an amazing combination that saves charging time and delivers long-lasting use on a single charge. You can also charge your phone, earbuds, and smartwatches because it supports reverse charging.

    Redmi Turbo 5 Display

Redmi Turbo 5 comes with 6.59 inches AMOLED display with a 3840PMW. This exceptionally high frequency prevents visible flickering and eliminates the eye strain, headaches, and nausea caused by slower PWM rates.

    Redmi Turbo 5 video quality

Moreover, it supports HDR10+, allowing you to watch high quality vidoes from OTT and other platforms.

    display

I watched “Detachment” on this phone, and its deep black was good. This phone also has Dolby Vision that enhances picture quality by delivering brighter highlights, deeper blacks, and a wider range of vibrant colours.

    refresh rate refresh rate

Furthermore, it has a 120Hz refresh rate, and scrolling, app opening, and closing will be smooth. The display also features a 1268 x 2756 pixels resolution with a sharp 460 PPI pixel density, while the 89.8% screen-to-body ratio adds to the immersive viewing experience.

    Redmi Turbo 5 Performance

Redmi Turbo 5 comes with the Mediatek Dimensity 8500 Ultra (4 nm) chipset for smooth performance. It delivers flagship-level performance, handling demanding games and multitasking with ease. It’s built on an advanced 4nm process, offering better battery efficiency and lower heat generation.

Moreover, it supports high frame rates, faster touch response, and stable performance during long gaming sessions. During the Redmi Turbo 5 review, I played a lot of BGMI straight; I never experienced any frame-drop issues. The phone got a little bit warm after four hours of continuous gaming, which was too much for me, but I tested it at the maximum level.

    Redmi Turbo 5 gaming

I just went beyond my limit to compare it with the Poco X8 Pro Max, which I also have, to see if there is any difference in gaming performance. I would say X8 Pro Max is better in gaming, but both phones are excellent in their price range.

Redmi Turbo 5 comes with UFS 4.1 storage, except for the 128GB storage variant. I was using 256GB variants, and it handles multiple apps running in the background without much battery consumption. This phone also has better thermal management, maintaining consistent performance under heavy workloads without excessive throttling.

In short, the Redmi Turbo 5 stands out with the Dimensity 8500 Ultra chipset for its balance of performance, efficiency, gaming capabilities, and battery optimisation, making it a strong option in upper mid-range smartphones.

    Redmi Turbo 5 benchmarks

I also ran several Benchmark tests on the Redmi Turbo 5 to assess its performance across different aspects. Its Geekbench scores are 1598 in single-core and 6293 in multi-core. The maximum in the CPU throttling test is 73 per cent. Moreover, its Antutu score is 2031325. The 3D Mark Wildlife Extreme Stress Test for stability has an overall score of 85.9%.

Redmi Turbo 5 Software and UI

Redmi Turbo 5 comes with a HyperOS 3 based on Android 16. The brand promised to give at least 4 major Android updates.

    Android 16

HyperOS 3 offers a smooth and highly customisable experience, especially for users who spend a lot of time on their phones.

    HyperOS 3

The animations and transitions feel fluid, and the app opens and closes quickly. However, Xiaomi still ships a few pre-installed apps and games. The good thing is that most of them can be uninstalled if you want a cleaner experience.

    UI

On the AI front, Xiaomi has added several useful features, including AI Writing, AI Speech Recognition, AI Search, and an AI Interpreter for live translations.

    AI

You also get AI Dynamic Wallpapers, native Google Gemini integration, and Circle to Search, which genuinely enhance productivity rather than feel like gimmicks.

    UIUI

Xiaomi is also promising 4 major Android updates and 6 years of security patches, which should keep the device relevant and secure for years to come. Overall, the software experience is feature-packed, smooth, and backed by a solid update policy.

    Verdict

The Redmi Turbo 5 review gets most things right. It offers excellent performance, outstanding battery life, a vibrant AMOLED display, and fast charging in a well-built package. While the ultrawide camera could have been better, and the software comes with some pre-installed apps, these are minor compromises considering its pricing. If gaming, multimedia consumption, and long battery life are your priorities, the Redmi Turbo 5 is an easy recommendation.
