Realme 16T Review: A Confusing Addition To The Realme 16 Series

Realme 16T price is Rs. 29,999 for 6GB RAM + 128GB Storage in India. It’s 8GB RAM + 128GB storage and 8GB RAM + 256GB storage priced at Rs. 31,999 and Rs. 34,999 respectively.

This phone is available in three striking colour options: Aurora Green, Starlight Black, and Starlight Red. You can buy it from Amazon and Flipkart.

Before we talk in detail about the Realme 16T, let’s see what the on-paper specs look like:

Realme 16T has a bulky and heavyweight design. This phone has a body dimension of 166.4 x 78.2 x 8.8 mm and weighs 224 grams.

Its back panel looks cool, with a “Gleaming Wings” design; the unique textures on the back react to light, creating a dynamic, shimmering effect. But honestly little bit unusual if I consider its 30K price range.

Its plastic back edge is a little sharper, which you can feel, and the display isn’t fitted completely flush; you can see some of the upper panel’s black part up to the body, giving a cheaper feel. The corners are smooth, and its camera design is similar to that of the Realme 16 series.

One thing I really liked about the Realme 16T review is its special built-in Selfie Mirror on the back. It is located next to the camera module, which is pill-shaped. This circular mirror is about the same size as a camera lens.

It works like a tiny viewfinder and helps you take perfect selfies with the strong 50MP rear camera.

This phone also has an IP68/IP69K rating for dust-tight and water-resistant. So, it can resist high-pressure water jets and is immersible up to 2.5m for 30 min. Also, it is MIL-STD-810H compliant, but this does not guarantee ruggedness or suitability for use in extreme conditions.

Moving on to the ports, the right side has a power button and a volume button. A single microphone is placed at the top of the phone. You will find a single speaker grill, a Type-C slot, a microphone, and a SIM tray at the bottom.

I was expecting better camera results from the Realme 16T, considering its price. Things start with just a 50MP rear camera paired with an auxiliary lens.

Most of the time, the camera struggles to produce impressive images. You might wonder where the camera performs well. I would say that if you are using it under ideal lighting conditions or in a well-lit indoor environment, there is no major issue.

However, in situations with less-than-ideal lighting, the camera has to work much harder to maintain skin tones, dynamic range, depth, and overall image quality.

For instance, I clicked several photos during the golden hour at around 5:30 PM. As you can see from the samples, the images are not as sharp as expected and miss the quality that should be available at this price point. Portrait mode is where things become a bigger concern. You can see in the portrait sample that the image is heavily altered by AI processing.

The camera added an unnatural yellow tint to the background and failed to maintain consistency while creating the bokeh effect. It even missed several areas around the hair, leaving portions of the original background visible.

Moreover, the edge detection did not meet expectations. The camera failed to properly detect the ear shape and missed parts of the shoulder edges.

I could share many more observations and scrutinise the camera performance in greater technical detail for the Realme 16T camera review, but I think these examples are enough to explain my experience.

I can easily name multiple devices in a similar price range that deliver noticeably better camera results.

The front camera performs better in most scenarios, though it is not exceptional either. As for video recording, both the rear and front cameras are limited to 1080p at 30fps.

The battery is one of the strongest points of this phone. During the Realme 16T review, I played a video on a loop and got 21 hours 35 minutes of battery life. This is the best choice for those who are looking for the best battery phone and don’t want to charge the phone frequently.

I also played some Battle Ground games, which reduced battery life by a few hours. So, battery life depends on your nature of use, like heavy, moderate, or light user.

Realme also claimed it can last up to 3 days, which is quite impressive. This phone comes with 45W SUPERVOOC fast charging. Due to the large 8000mAh battery, it takes almost 1 hour and 40 minutes to fully charge during the Realme 16T review.

In terms of display, the Realme 16T has a few positive aspects, but its large notch immediately gives it the feel of a much cheaper smartphone. With an approximately 87.1% screen-to-body ratio and a 720 x 1570-pixel resolution, the display does not feel as modern or immersive as several competitors in this price segment.

Apart from this, the phone comes with an AMOLED panel that delivers a decent video playback experience. However, the resolution is limited, and the lower pixel density is noticeable when compared to Full HD+ displays available at similar prices.

The Realme 16T supports up to a 144Hz refresh rate, which makes scrolling feel fast and smooth. You can adjust the refresh rate through the settings, but 144Hz mode is supported by only a limited number of compatible apps, while most applications continue to operate at 60Hz.

During the Realme 16T review, I also used the phone outdoors in bright sunlight. Visibility was quite decent, and the display managed reflections reasonably well, making it comfortable enough for everyday usage. The company has also included Panda-1681 glass protection, which should provide some additional durability against daily wear and tear.

Realme 16T comes with the Mediatek Dimensity 6300 (6 nm) chipset, offering decent performance for daily use. This chip is a budget-friendly 5G processor made for affordable smartphones. It is built using TSMC’s 6 nm process, which helps it use less power and connect well to 5G networks. However, it is not very powerful and is best for simple, everyday tasks.

Honestly, a bunch of phones are avilable in the market offering better chipsets like Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 (4nm), Snapdragon 8s Gen 3, Dimensity 8350, etc., are much more efficient. Note that you can’t get out of it by saying we are offering a giant battery; that’s why this chip is here. Just check out the Vivo T5 Pro for better reference.

In terms of gaming, you can play low-hanging games smoothly, but do not think about playing BGMI; otherwise, you will be in the lobby every time. There is only UFS 2.2 type storage, yuck!

I also ran several Benchmark tests on the Realme 16T to assess its performance across different aspects. Its Geekbench scores are 3411 in single-core and 10021 in multi-core. The maximum in the CPU throttling test is 66 per cent. Moreover, its Antutu score is 3483365. The 3D Mark Wildlife Extreme Stress Test for stability has an overall score of 71.7%.

Realme 16T comes with Realme UI 7.0 based on Android 16. Its update policy covers the device with 3 OS upgrades and 4 years of security updates.

While the UI is still filled with a lot of bloatware like Tile Explorer, Fruit Shooting, FinShell Pay, Bubble Pop, Block Blast, and more. You can uninstall them immediately; otherwise, they may affect the overall experience after multiple updates.

In daily usage, the software experience remains smooth for the most part. App opening and closing animations are well-optimised, and navigating through menus feels fluid. Combined with the high-refresh-rate display, the UI provides a fast, responsive feel during regular tasks.

I also liked some of the animation effects across the interface. Whether it was switching between apps, opening folders, or accessing the notification panel, the transitions looked polished. The software does not feel laggy, though occasional stutters can still appear when several apps are running in the background.

Like most recent Realme smartphones, the Realme 16T also comes with several AI-powered features. These include AI tools for image editing, object removal, writing assistance, and productivity-related tasks. While some features are genuinely useful, others feel more like additions to keep up with current AI trends than things users will rely on every day.
