    About the Phone

The Galaxy A9 is not a perfect deal by any means, but it is certainly up there. The phone, as stated before, appeals to a wide variety of users, and isn’t one-dimensional at all. It offers something for everyone out there (except perhaps budget users who are looking for entry-level devices, which is quite obvious).

The USP of the phone is certainly the four rear-mounted cameras, so, if you are one of those who want to ditch their DSLR and are also in need of a new phone, then this might be it. But does having more cameras equate to better performance? We will elaborate more on this in a later section of this review.

Even if you do not consider the camera aspect, the phone on its own offers more than enough to get people to buy it. An octa-core processor, coupled with 6 or 8 GB RAM options, and 64 or 128 GB internal storage options with expandable memory, a stunning Super AMOLED display and a decent price range make the phone a decent deal for anyone looking to shell out upwards of INR 30000

Samsung has launched the Galaxy A9 in December 2018, with 64/128 GB internal storage and 6/8 GB RAM options. Taking the triple camera from the A7 up a notch, the A9 offers four rear-mounted cameras, which promise some of the best camera performance in the industry.

Priced at a respectable INR 34000, considering the features and specifications, the Galaxy A9 is certain to appeal to both power users and photographers, helping the phone stand out in an already packed segment.

The phone offers a quite attractive design, with colour options including pink, blue and black. The blue and pink colour options have a gradient design at the back, with a colour shift which changes in intensity depending on the light that falls on the device. The rear-mounted fingerprint sensor is square shaped and is housed just above the Samsung logo.

The phone offers a very premium feel, owing to the glass back. The phone still does not offer wireless charging, though. It even feels more comfortable to hold than the Note 9.

A 2160×1080 super AMOLED display is certainly the highlight of this device. Great viewing angles, vibrant colours and awesome brightness are just some of the excellent characteristics of the display. Consumption of multimedia is a joy on this phone, as videos and games look their best owing to the high resolution and quality of the display. Samsung is always known for its great displays on their devices, and the Galaxy A9 is certainly carrying on the tradition.

The phone runs on a Snapdragon 660 chipset, which is one of the best mid-range SoC’s available, but considering the fact that one can buy another 660-powered phone such as the Xiaomi Mi A2 for a considerably lesser price, some potential buyers might turn their heads in a different direction.

Ignore that fact, and what you have on your hands is a stellar performer that gets anything and everything is done, thanks to the 6/8 GB of RAM on board. Gaming feels quite enjoyable on the device, owing to the superb specifications and the stunning Super AMOLED display.

Users would have loved to see Android Pie on the device, but sadly, it still runs Oreo

The four camera sensors on the rear of the A9 are as follows-

    1. A 24 MP main sensor
    2. An 8 MP ultra wide angle lens
    3. A 10 MP telephoto lens
    4. A 5 MP depth sensor

According to reviewers and testers, this phone is built for the social media maniac. Sharing food photos on Instagram is a joy, thanks to the superb camera quality. In adequate sunlight, the photos look bright and sharp. The only real problem can occur in low light, with the camera setup not offering the best of performance. The camera app is also a little flawed, failing to recognize input at times.

The 24 MP selfie camera is a beast in itself, at least on paper, and photos offer plenty of detail. All in all, the camera setup of the Galaxy A9 is great but not as good as it should have been.

With a 3800 mAh non-removable battery, the Samsung Galaxy A9 offers as good battery life as the Note 9. The phone easily lasts a day on average usage, and the fast charging support ensures that you’re good to go in a jiffy. The phone claims to go from 0 to a hundred percent in just under two hours, which is great timing. The battery is juiced up to help power the super AMOLED screen, which takes a considerable amount of power to run.

On paper, it seems that the Galaxy A9 is made for photography enthusiasts. But unfortunately, more cameras does not equate to better performance. Don’t get us wrong, the camera performance is still up there with this device.

The other things about this phone work really well, too. So, even if you do not consider the camera aspect, the phone is still a powerhouse. Incredible specifications, a great display, and more than decent camera performance for what it costs? The Galaxy A9 is certainly worth a try.
