Tecno POVA

Recently the Chinese smartphone company Tecno mobiles introduced a new device, the Tecno POVA, which doesn’t belong to any of its pre-existing series. In the Tecno’s profile, the smartphone represents the first of its kind and priced in the budget-level segment. The Tecno POVA has got some of the premium features that you will see in the flagship and mid-range smartphones. Here is a brief review of this latest smartphone for getting the basic idea about its performance.

Tecno POVA Price in India

Tecno Pova comes in three colour variants, Magic Blue, Speed Purple and Dazzle Black. Also, there is a single variant launched by the Tecno brand, featuring 6GB RAM. The price in India for the Tecno Pova is Rs.9,999 for the 4GB/64GB variant while the price for 6GB/128GB is Rs.11,999. Considering all the features offered by the device and all the smartphones available under this price range, the Tecno Pova comes with a justified price tag.

The fingerprint sensor has been kept at the centre position on the rear panel and which is something unique that you will see in an entry-level smartphone. There are only a few smartphones from this category featuring a fingerprint sensor and that is why it is a welcome step from the brand. Also, the camera bump on the rear side is barely noticeable.

While designing the Tecno POVA the material that has been used is plastic and presented with an impressive paint job. However, this shiny surface on the rear attracts fingerprints and which is an obvious concern. But still, the Tecno Pova with its rounded corners feels firm in the hand and can be easily managed single-handedly.

The entry-level smartphone from the Tecno brand supports a 6.8-inch display, which is bezel-less and there is a punch-hole provided on the screen for housing the selfie camera. The display has got an aspect ratio of 20.5:9 along with screen to body ratio of 90.4%. The screen resolution has been set as 720 pixels, which makes sense, given the price point of the Tecno POVA. When it comes to regular web browsing and social media applications, the display performs quite well. Tecno POVA has got the biggest screen for its own price point.

Tecno has tried to match the specifications of this device with the mid-range gaming offerings and those are almost twice the price. Tecno POVA is outfitted with MediaTek Helio G80 chipset paired with Mali-G52 MC2 GPU. The same chipset was also used in the Realme 6i and the price of which is more than the Tecno POVA. In other words, the low 720-pixel resolution has been compensated by introducing the Helio G80 processor.

Although there are new whistles and bells loaded in the device, the HiOS skin is still the pathetic link for Tecno POVA. The interface appears boring and outdated. For managing the multi-tasking, there is 6GB RAM and 128GB internal storage.

There is a Quad-rear camera setup consisting of a 13MP main lens, followed by a 2MP depth lens, a 2MP macro lens along with a dedicated AI lens. As for the selfie camera, there is an 8MP lens provided with the Tecno Pova.

In well-lit conditions, the pictures captured would be of decent quality and there might be a dip in the quality in low-light conditions. But here one thing is to mention that for capturing effective pictures in the low-lit environments, the rear camera setup has been included with the Quad-flash feature. 

Coming to the battery department, this section is the main selling point for the Tecno POVA as it comes with a huge 6000 mAh battery along with 18W Dual IC Flash charging. According to the Tecno brand, the Dual IC fast charge is 20% quicker than the conventional 18W fast charging. For those who are prone to heavy usage like web browsing, multitasking etc, the 6000 mAh battery is a treat.

Tecno POVA is a decent entry-level smartphone with some of the interesting features like a stunning chipset, a huge battery, ample RAM and storage and average camera setup. Although there are few anomalies, considering the price point, this device is worth going with.
