  • Apple has released a new iPhones and iPads update for several older devices, including models launched more than a decade ago. The update mainly focuses on fixing serious security issues that could leave these devices open to cyberattacks.

The company pushed new software versions such as iOS 16.7.15, iOS 15.8.7, iPadOS 16.7.15, and iPadOS 15.8.7 for older iPhones and iPads that cannot run the latest iOS versions. Apple says the update patches vulnerabilities linked to a powerful exploit toolkit called Coruna, which security researchers recently discovered.

Experts from Google and security firm iVerify revealed that the Coruna exploit kit can combine multiple security flaws to break into Apple devices running outdated software. In some cases, attackers could compromise a device if a user simply opened a malicious website or clicked on a harmful link.

The latest iPhones and iPads update fixes these issues and helps protect users who still rely on older Apple hardware.

The kernel controls core functions of the operating system, while WebKit powers web browsing on Apple devices. If attackers exploit these weaknesses, they could potentially take control of affected devices.

Apple already fixed these vulnerabilities in newer versions of iOS. With the latest iPhones and iPads update, the company has now extended those protections to older devices as well.
