Google Chrome is developing a tool which will let users snooze the inactive tabs. Android Police reports that a user on Reddit has seen a new Performance page. It is seen on the settings menu in Chrome’s latest Canary build. It will help free up memory on your computer to use for other applications.

New Features By Google Chrome

This build has toggles for two new features – a Memory Saver and Energy Saver mode. The Memory saver mode hibernates tabs that users have not touched in a while. It includes freezing valuable RAM, as the Android Police report said.

Moreover, opening multiple tabs in Chrome uses a lot of memory. It even slows down the computer. But now with the new feature, users will be able to snooze tabs that are not in use. In the active mode, users will see a needle gauge icon on the right-hand side of the address bar.

There will be a pop-up when chrome users revisit any snoozed tab. This pop-up will reveal how much RAM was freed for other tasks. The users can toggle OFF or ON the mode. The report said the users can also define exceptions for websites which should never be snoozed. Stating the example of YouTube, if you use it for ambient music or a live game score tracker.

Further, the report reads, the Battery Saver mode “turns off high refresh rate features (smooth scrolling), visual effects, and limits background activity at times when extending the battery life of your device is paramount.”
