Google’s upcoming phones including the Pixel 6, will be among the first devices to run on the “GS101” Whitechapel chip. Moreover, it will the first handset to run on the new SoC. Google rumored to be developing its own processor with the help of Samsung – under the codename Whitechapel. However, a new report now suggests that it will be the first device to get the in-house chip.

Google Pixel 6 Leaks
Now, a fresh report by XDA Developers reiterates the same with new evidence. This screenshot mentions ‘Whitechapel’ text by the Google engineers in a code change. In addition, there is also a mention of P21 in the line “You don’t need core domain to use binder_use. This one lives fine on P21,” which could be referring to the Pixel 6. P21 can’t be the Pixel 5a as it is expected to feature the Snapdragon 765G SoC.

Internally, Google refers to this chip as “GS101,” with “GS” potentially being short for “Google Silicon”. Apart from Pixel 6, Google is apparently co-developing the Whitechapel SoC with Samsung, a company that also makes its own Exynos processors for Pixel 6. The report says the new ‘Google Silicon’ may have some commonalities with Exynos, including software components.

Unfortunately, that’s pretty much everything we know so far about Google’s Whitechapel chip. As of now, Pixel devices currently receive 3 years of Android OS upgrades but with their own chipsets. Google might offer at least four major OS upgrades to Pixel 6 and above – this is just speculation as of now.
