Samsung Galaxy S20 FE
Samsung’s ‘Galaxy S’ and the ‘Galaxy Note’ series are one of the most premium and top-rated smartphone series in the market. However, the top-of-the-line features, premium hardware and powerful internals did make these flagship series get a hefty price tag. This changed last year, when the Korean tech giant came out with a “Lite” version of its flagship smartphone series and introduced the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Lite and the Galaxy S10 Lite. The two devices managed to gather a lot of appreciation by offering flagship-level internals at a much affordable price tag.
Samsung Galaxy S20 Fan Edition Price in India
As expected, Samsung is here again with the Samsung Galaxy S20 Fan Edition, which is basically a lighter version of its Galaxy S20 series which got launched earlier this year. Starting at a price tag of $699 (roughly Rs. 51,400), the S20 Fan Edition also comes with 5G support. However, there is also a 4G variant but its pricing is still unknown. With 6GB RAM + 128GB, 8GB + 128GB, and 8GB + 256GB models to choose from, Samsung has also offered six colour options – Cloud Red, Cloud Orange, Cloud Lavender, Cloud Mint, Cloud Navy and Cloud White. While the device is available for pre-order in select countries with a release due on October 2, launch details and pricing in India are yet to be revealed.

As we have seen on the Galaxy S10 Lite, Samsung has still made compromises in the design department on the toned-down variant of the Galaxy S20. So, the Samsung Galaxy S20 Fan Edition does have a plastic back but fortunately, it still boasts wireless charging support. So, the back design is pretty similar to the Galaxy S20 with a rectangular camera array at the top-left, the Samsung branding at the bottom. We get to see the power button placed along with the volume rocker are on the right edge. At the bottom, there’s a USB-C port accompanied by a speaker grille. Yes, we do not get to see the 3.5mm headphone jack. The Galaxy S20 Fan Edition gets an IP68 rating which makes it dustproof and waterproof up to 1.5 meters for 30 minutes.
Samsung has made just a single compromise in the display department of the Galaxy S20 Fan Edition. At the front is a gigantic 6.5-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED Infinity-O Display with 120Hz refresh rate. The device, with 1080×2400 pixels and an aspect ratio of 20:9, doesn’t boast a Quad-HD resolution panel as we have seen on the costlier Galaxy S20. The display flaunts a gorgeous pixel density of 407ppi and is protected by a Corning Gorilla Glass 3.
The Samsung Galaxy S20 Fan Edition packs in the latest, blazing-fast processor i.e. the Snapdragon 865 5G. In India, the device is expected to feature Samsung’s in-house Exynos 990 4G chipset. It is paired along with Adreno 650 GPU and up to 8GB LPDDR4x RAM and 256GB of UFS 3.1 internal storage that can be further expanded to 512GB using a dedicated memory card slot.
It runs on Android 10-based OneUI 2.1 which is the latest. Samsung has also promised 3 years of software updates with the device.
The device is strapped with a rectangle-shaped triple-lens setup that houses a 12MP primary sensor with an f/1.8 wide-angle lens and support for optical image stabilisation (OIS) and dual-phase detection autofocus. Sitting alongside is a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle shooter with an f/2.2 aperture and 123-degree FoV. The third is an 8-megapixel telephoto shooter with an f/2.0 aperture and support for 3x Optical Zoom and 30x Super-Resolution Zoom. For selfies and video chats, the Galaxy S20 Fan Edition comes with a 32-megapixel selfie camera with an f/2.0 lens on top.
Samsung Galaxy S20 Fan Edition packs in a giant 4,500mAh battery with 25W fast wired and 15W fast wireless charging support. Although we get 25W fast charging support, the device ships with a 15W charger is included in the box. The device also supports reverse wireless charging aka Wireless Powershare to charge other wireless charging enabled devices.
Just like last year’s Galaxy S10 lite, the Galaxy S20 Fan Edition does provide a complete package of powerful internals and flagship-level features at a much lesser price as compared to the original Galaxy S20. But still, the price tag at which the device is offered does make us sceptical as there are many other options to choose from, such as those from OnePlus. However, the device is undoubtedly very promising as we hardly get to see any major compromises and still get a reliable brand value alongside a flagship experience without digging a big hole in our pocket.
