Honor 9S is truly a budget phone and you can see it in its design as well. Upfront, the phone has thick bezels around the edges. There’s no notch on top but an old school notch-less form factor with thick top with a strongly thick chin. There’s a power button & volume rocker to the right. Flip the phone and you’ll get an unobstructed plastic-clad rear panel with Honor branding on the bottom half and a single camera setup arranged in a square camera setup on the top-left corner.
Talking about the display, Honor 9S sports a decent panel that justifies its entry-level tag. It has a 5.45” 720×1440 pixels resolution with a 73.8% screen-to-body ratio and 295 PPI density. Although the display isn’t anything like an AMOLED panel, it does justifies its price point with a competent display.
Honor 9S is equipped with an entry-level MediaTek Helio P22 12nm chipset clocked at a max 2.0GHz. It is accompanied by PowerVR GE8320 GPU along with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. The phone also has a dedicated slot to extend memory further. The phone runs on Android 10-based Magic UI 3.1 but without Google Play Services on-board.
Honor 9S takes the queue from a boat-load of other smartphones who started taking cues from the iPhone 11. Here, Honor 9S sports a single 8MP shooter with f/2.0 aperture and autofocus along with a LED flash arranged in a square camera bump. It can shoot 1080p videos at 30fps and the same goes for its front camera. Flip the phone and you’ll get a 5MP shooter with an aperture of f/2.2 on its front in an old school notch-less display with thick bezels on top and chin.
