BSNL plans to bring the 4G services into the country by March 2023. The telecom operator was to bring services by January 2023; however, the company may take more time to offer services in all circles. The enhanced connectivity will most likely begin in metro cities first, followed by other circles. Moreover, with Airtel and Jio networks rolling out 5G services, BSNL too plans to bring it by August 2023.

The company is installing over 1.12 lakh towers across the country. A DOT officer said that the 4G services might soon roll out by 2023. The company has been facing issues since it tried to offer advanced network connectivity. However, the TCS-Tejas-CDOT consortium is expected to spread the 4G network of the telecom operator. This signifies that the 4G operations will start soon. Additionally, the government has already approved Rs 1.64 lakh crore revival package for the telecom operator. Thus, BSNL will first offer its services in the metros whilst the MTNL will take care of old networks.

A report suggested that BSNL was planning to bring 4G and 5G with the support of homegrown technology. For this, the Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and the government’s Center for Development of Telematics (C-DoT) worked together to bring the homegrown 4G core tech to BSNL. The company is thus planning to provide the next-gen 5G network after the successful completion of beta testing.
