      Expert Opinion

Nubia Z20 looks like a phone from the future with dual screens, 8K video recording, and power-packed performance.

The primary or front screen on the Nubia Z20 is a 6.42-inch AMOLED screen with a 1080 x 2340 resolution and a 401ppi pixel density. It is not as sharp as the iPhone 11 Pro but sharper than the iPhone 11. It gets a max brightness of 430 nits indoors. Outdoors, it goes up to 600, which makes the phone viewable. The viewing angles are quite great too. To give a warm hue to the screen, you can also open the Night Light feature.

Flip it over, and you get a 5.1-inch AMOLED screen with 720×1520 resolution. It is still sharp at 330pp pixel density and is quite responsive. The rear screen has a 330 nits brightness, so it’s not very useful in bright sunlight. The second screen is of great use when you click selfies. When you are gaming or playing music in the primary screen, the second screen can display a kind of light show to tell people that you are busy.

      Display Resolution1080 x 2340 pixels

Nubia Z20 looks like a OnePlus 7 Pro. It has a shiny glint on its frame like the new OnePlus phones. But when you flip the phone, you will be surprised with another LCD. You will see three horizontally stacked camera with two LED flashes on either side. Now, how does the phone recognize which face is upwards? With the help of sensors, it switches on one side of the display. The phone arrives with an in-display fingerprint scanner placed on both sides. At the base of the phone, there is a USB Type-C port. However, there is no headphone jack. The Nubia Z20 feels and looks premium, and the double screen effect adds to the specialty of the phone.

The ZTE Nubia Z20 comes with the Snapdragon 855 Plus, making it a power-packer. Plus, it pairs it up with 8GB of RAM. Nubia Z20 is blazing fast and can run multiple apps simultaneously without a problem. Gaming performance is top-notch as well since you can play graphics-heavy games with zero issues even at high presets. The two fingerprint scanners work snappily too. The downer is that the phone lacks NFC. Thus, you do not have the privilege of contactless payments, Android’s native tap-to-share, and one-touch pairing.

The Nubia Z20 does not come with a selfie camera, as such. It has a primary 48MP rear camera, which can be used to take selfies. Plus, it comes with OIS too. On top of that, the phone has a 16MP ultra-wide camera and an 8MP telephoto camera. The primary camera can click amazing details keeping it natural. The images do not look washed out either. They have negligible grain in them. Plus, the low-light shots of Nubia Z20 are quite excellent and natural too. The macro mode captures impressive details, as well.

The telephoto lens goes for heavy noise reduction and creates soft images. The wide-angle camera is great for daylight images and poor at night.

A beta version of video recording can help the Nubia to record 8K videos! However, the 8K video quality is quite fragile and may not run even in high-end computers.

The Nubia Z20 arrives with a standard 4000mAh battery. Despite having two screens, the phone can still chug on for a whole day. A 30-minute video at max brightness played on the rear display drained 5% of the battery and 6% of the battery when played on the primary screen. The phone can get to full charge in just an hour and a half due to fast charging.

      Battery TypeLi-Po

The Nubia Z20 is not flawless – the UI lacks finesse, and the lack of NFC can be troublesome. However, there is no denying that it has brought some new things in the market. The second screen, which functions well, can be a great USP for the phone. Plus, it can record 8K videos. Despite being in its beta stage, it is still something worth looking into. If you are an innovator and want a glimpse of how the future phone would look like, then Nubia Z20 is a great handset to go for.
