Realme C2

To capture the budget market, Realme brings out its special Realme C2. Priced around Rs.6000, the Realme C2 does keep its own and has the specifications that put it beyond the average budget phone. Realme C2 goes outside what it is meant to be and showcases some real oomph that’s unexpected from a budget phone. It is truly a budget marvel.

Realme C2 comes at a throwaway price with all the features you need as a beginner. Realme C2 price in India starts at Rs.6,499 for the base variant with just 2GB RAM and 16GB internal storage. A slightly better variant with 32GB internal storage and same 2GB RAM costs Rs.6,999. The pricing is very much affordable but less storage option can be a problem for a lot of users.

Generally, budget phones have a very bland design. However, Realme C2 arrives as a true exception. It is plastic-built, but the geometric diamond cut rear panel will grab your eyes. The phone presents itself with a dual camera setup on its back panel. The rear panel finish is beautiful with the lights hitting it at angles that help the pattern pop out. The phone does not attract fingerprint smudges as well, which is an excellent deviation from glass backs. The power button is well-placed on the right, which is easy to reach. On the left, there is the volume rocker. The phone does not come with a fingerprint scanner. As a budget phone, it does not go for the USB Type-C charger but adopts the old micro-USB port.

The Realme C2 arrives with a sports a 6.1-inch HD+ screen which has a display of  720×1560 pixels. It is fitted with a Corning Gorilla Glass 3. The phone has a waterdrop notch, and hence, you get a lot of screen space to work with. The display has impressive viewing angles. The brightness is adequate and is partially legible, even if you are outdoors. While the colour temperature at first might seem muted, you can easily adjust it to your liking. Hence, you get the independence of choosing warm or cooler colours.

The Realme C2 is a budget phone, and as usual, it is powered by an octa-core MediaTek Helio P22 budget chipset. It is paired with a 2GB or 3GB RAM. The phone does have a hint of lag, but for the most part, scrolling through the menu or launching apps is lag-free. Multitasking is smooth with light apps, but intensive apps will take time to load. There is Face Unlock which works fast enough. The multi-core score that this handset gets on Geekbench is around 3,326 while its competitor Redmi 7 gets about 4,333. PUBG can run on this phone at low settings, but the gameplay is not smooth as there are stutters.  

Realme C2 has two cameras on its back – a 13MP primary camera with an f/2.2 aperture and a 2MP depth-sensing camera. When presented in ideal light conditions, the phone is able to capture good photos, keeping the focus intact. However, when objects are in the distance, it is not able to keep the focus well. Macros are better since it is able to differentiate between both the subject and the background. The portrait shots are quite good as it has proper edge detection. However, the photos lack sharpness.

The 5MP selfie camera on the front does an excellent job with clicking social-media worthy selfies. HDR helps in clicking shots when your face is against the light.

Videos are maxed out at 1080p for the back camera, and the front camera can shoot up to 720p. Since there is no stabilization, you get jerky footage. The phone also offers an 80fps slow motion recording at 480p. However, it freezes during recording and is not reliable.

Realme C2 packs a 4000mAh battery. It is a massive battery and offers decent power throughout the day. Running an HD video on loop found that the battery was able to keep up for a whopping 20 hours and 29 minutes, which is fantastic. The phone managed to stay alive for more than a day with video streaming, Google maps, and social media. Charging takes a little bit of time, getting from 0 to 100% within two hours.

As a budget phone, Realme C2 comes out strong. It has a decent processor but an excellent battery life. Unlike most budget phones, Realme C2 works on the design aspect. While the cameras are mediocre, the phone does offer portrait mode options with a decent depth-sensing camera as well as slow-motion video shooting. If you are looking for a budget phone, then Realme C2 can be an ideal match. However, if you want to go for a higher variant, then consider Redmi 7 for better hardware.
