Review Summary

Vivo has expanded its X series and launched its all new Vivo X90 5G in India. The phone comes as a flagship smartphone with a premium price tag of 60K. But for that price, you also get what you pay for.

It boasts a premium design and top-notch camera quality. You also get a powerful chipset to handle all your tasks. The curved AMOLED display gives out the best viewing experience. All this is backed by a 4810 mAh battery which can fast charge at 120W.

Sounds good, right? I really like the phone spec wise but does it justify the premium price tag? Let’s find out in this Vivo X90 5G review.

Vivo X90 5G Design and Build

Vivo X90 5G boasts a really premium design as well as in-hand feel. You can tell it’s a flagship phone the moment you hold it in your hands. I have the blue colour variant with me which has a darn good finish on the back.

There’s a big round camera unit on the back which looks like it houses four lenses but in reality, there are only three lenses. The top right side has the LED flash.

A slim strip runs around the back which highlights the collaboration of Vivo and ZEISS. It’s a pretty tall phone and you can feel the weight in the hand (about 200 grams). The phone is a bit slippery as well, so I had to hold it firmly in my hands. It comes with a soft case, so I recommend you to use that.

Vivo X90 5G right edge

Talking about ports and buttons, the right side has the power button along with volume rockers. The left side is clean while the button side has the SIM card slot, type-C port, loudspeaker and mic.

Vivo X90 5G Camera

Vivo X90 features a triple camera setup on the back which takes excellent photos in different lighting conditions. It includes a 50MP main camera, 12MP ultra-wide camera and a 12MP portrait lens. The front side has a 32MP camera for taking selfies.

Vivo X90 5G Camera

The 50MP main camera takes absolutely stunning photos in bright daylight conditions. The details in the images can be seen. They were sharp and punchy with good dynamic range. Even the low-light shots were superb.

Portrait shots were on-point. The edge detection was great and the background blur looked natural. I can confidently say that the shots were on par with any other flagship phones in the market. Even the ultra-wide shots were impressive with good details.

The 32MP front camera captures sharp and crisp selfies that are loaded with details, even when you zoom in. I could see the minute details like my beard hair. The skin tones looked pretty natural and I loved the overall result.

Vivo X90 5G Battery and Charging

Vivo X90 5G packs a 4810 mAh battery inside which is just a little short compared to the standard 5000 mAh battery. But we know that it all depends on the optimisation and Vivo has done a good job here.

Vivo X90 5G Battery

The phone easily lasts a whole day and even extends to the second day on a light usage. However, if you are a heavy user, you will need to plug in the charger by the evening.

But that’s not a problem considering it comes with a whooping 120W fast charging support. Thanks to Vivo, you get the charger in the box. The 120W fast charger takes about 30 minutes to fully charge the phone. A quick charge of 15 minutes juices the battery to about 60 per cent.

Vivo X90 5G Display

Vivo X90 5G features an FHD+ 6.78 inches curved AMOLED display that provides a top-notch viewing experience. You get a 1260 x 2800 pixels resolution, a 120 Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 1300 nits.

Vivo X90 5G Display

I must say that the phone gets pretty bright outdoors. The screen was more clear and more visible when compared to my iPhone 13 under direct sunlight. Moreover, the 120Hz refresh rate makes everything super smooth, be it scrolling or just navigating the UI.

Now talking about the display quality, I watched a couple of videos on YouTube and it was amazing. The display offers solid details, sharpness and punchy colours. I really enjoyed streaming content on OTT platforms and playing games on the Vivo X90 5G.

Not to forget, it’s a curved display with really thin bezels. So you really get the flagship experience.

Vivo X90 5G Performance and Software

Vivo X90 5G is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 9200 chipset which is paired with up to 12GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. It performs like a beast and handles anything you throw at it.

Vivo X90 5G Performance

Well, that comes at no surprise, as it packs a quite powerful chipset. Apps open up quickly and switching between them was seamless. Apps like Instagram and Snapchat ran smoothly with no shutters. Be it scrolling through the reels or navigating through the UI, everything was buttery smooth.

Vivo X90 5G UI

Coming over to gaming, it can easily handle the most-graphic intensive games. I tried a couple of demanding titles like Apex Legends Mobile, Genshin Impact and Asphalt 9. All of them could run at high settings without breaking a sweat. I did not notice any kind of lags or frame drops while playing, and my overall experience was great.

Vivo X90 5G Gaming Performance

Vivo X90 5G runs on Funtouch OS based on Android 13. Good to see that Vivo has given the latest Android version out of the box. The UI is simple and comes with a bunch of customisation options.

Vivo X90 5G Software

One downside was that there were some third-party apps pre-installed, which I had to uninstall from the settings.

Vivo X90 5G is a solid smartphone that packs everything you could ask for in a flagship device. You get a premium design and build quality, solid battery backup, 120W fast charging speed and a great display for everyday usage.

The phone is powerful enough to handle anything you throw at it, including damaging games. All that is there, but the top-notch camera quality steals the show. Overall, Vivo X90 5G is a big recommendation for someone who wants a premium looking phone with best-in-class camera performance.
