During daylight scenarios, the camera captures a whole lot of details, and even the colour saturation is natural with a good amount of texture. It doesn’t hamper the skin tones much, and the indoor shots are no different. The autofocus in Mate 40 Pro is on point and is quite fast, even during HDR mode. Although the Mate 40 Pro has more conventional exposure settings, which don’t capture the scene as you see it through your eyes, that can be easily fixed using some editing software.

The Huawei Mate 40 Pro performs reasonably well under low-light scenarios. The photos come out to be impressive with saturated colors and defined textures. The Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra outputs a more realistic image during low light; meanwhile, Huawei Mate 40 Pro gives out a picture with almost no noise that might be pleasing to many but won’t serve well to some. Still, if we were to consider, then Huawei Mate 40’s low light performance is better than most smartphones, including Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra and iPhone 12 Pro Max.

In low lighting conditions, the HDR mode outputs even more light than what one sees, making it look like it’s an evening or even a day but could be helpful in several scenarios.

Huawei Mate 40 Pro Camera – Ultra-wide

The Mate 40 Pro’s camera is not as comprehensive as its competitors, but it is a mile ahead in terms of image quality compared to the likes of the iPhone 12 Pro Max and Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra. The photos shot using the ultra-wide camera tend to lose out colors, but it succeeds in retaining as many details as possible. The low light shots through the ultra-wide camera are also good and but sometimes they could look unrealistic due to the presence of more than needed light.

The zoom performance of the Mate 40 Pro is in line with other Huawei flagships and is far ahead of other smartphones. The Mate 40 Pro captures zoom shots with finer details, and the zoomed photos look natural, which rectifies the need for color correcting the photos, unlike other smartphones. The zoom performance of the Mate 40 Pro is, in fact, better than the Samsung Galaxy S20 and S21 Ultra.

Huawei Mate 40 Pro Camera – Potrait Mode

Huawei Mate 40 Pro is no slouch either when it comes to producing enough amount of bokeh. The bokeh looks natural, and the depth estimation beats other flagships with a correct amount of noise and natural colors.

So if you want to click some good portrait shots of your friends or pets with a great amount of bokeh, then Huawei’s Mate 40 would be an excellent option for you.

The 13MP front-facing camera clicks some excellent selfies with a good amount of dynamic range and colour. During the natural light, the selfies come out to be quite tremendous, but things go off as soon as lighting goes awry. The Ultra-Vision selfie camera clicks ultra-wide selfie cameras with great details and could come in handy when you want to click a group selfie.

Huawei Mate 40 Pro Camera – Video Recording

The Huawei Mate 40 Pro offers Ultra HD 4K 60fps video is pretty good. The video is smooth, vibrant, and offers quite a bit of contrast. The dynamic range is excellent, and the footage is almost jitter-free, thanks mixture of OIS and EIS creates jitter-free footage. However, you can notice some skin while recording video in low light through the front-facing camera, but it isn’t that big of an issue.

Huawei Mate 40 Pro Camera – Final Verdict

Huawei’s Mate 40 Pro brings the best mobile camera, and the Leica collaboration offers one of the best camera outputs we’ve ever seen. Moreover, the hardware on Mate 40 Pro is complemented by Huawei’s natural image processing, resulting in natural colors and fine texture.
