What is cloud gaming?

To know what cloud gaming is, we must first understand how gaming works. Most games nowadays require us to download the game’s files into our computer. Only then would we be able to access the files and play the game. However, this is where cloud gaming becomes a game-changer. With cloud gaming, all you require is a decently fast internet connection. Through this system, you’ll be able to stream the game right into your computer. Moreover, you won’t even require an expensive gaming rig to play the games. Not only will your system’s internal space be saved, but you’ll also be able to access the games at any time.

What is JioGamesCloud?

Now that you know what cloud gaming is, let’s move on to JioGamesCloud. The cloud gaming service from Reliance’s Jio Group is currently in its beta phase. Through this gaming service, players from all over the country will have access to the finest gaming experience available today.

According to Jio, special invites have been sent out to professional gamers in India to test the service on their smartphones and personal computers. Through this beta phase testing, Jio aims to improve the service based on feedback before launching the service for consumers nationwide. Furthermore, if you own a Jio set-top box, there’s some good news for you. Once JioGamesCloud rolls out in its release phase, owners of the Jio set-top box will also receive the cloud gaming service.

It’s also rumoured that Jio is looking to partner with the biggest names in gaming software and hardware. One of these names includes Nvidia, as Jio looks to bring Nvidia GeForce Now (Nvidia’s own cloud gaming service) to the country.

As for the number of games, JioGamesCloud brings around 50 titles to the gaming service. However, since the service is in its beta state, we expect the number of games to increase soon!

Requirements for JioGamesCloud

Like any other service of its kind, there are a few things you need to have before you jump into the JioGamesCloud. Here’s what you need to make this service work smoothly on your end:

Internet connectivity

Of course, since JioGamesCloud is wholly based on streaming data, you’ll need to have a good internet connection. More importantly, it’s recommended to have a stable internet connection whose bandwidth is at least 20Mbps. Any less than this, and you’ll definitely face some choppy gameplay. The in-game resolution will likely be downscaled as well.

Compatible device

At the moment, the JioGamesCloud is available on Android smartphones through the JioGames app. Unfortunately, iPhone users will not be able to play the games through an app. Instead, you’ll have to play the games through the Safari browser. For PCs running Windows, macOS, or even Linux, the JioGamesCloud Web App should work smoothly. Furthermore, if you own a Jio set-top box, you can stream the games through the JioGames app. Android Smart TV owners will have to wait for the cloud gaming support, however.

Desktop users require a keyboard and mouse combination to play the games on JioGamesCloud. Nonetheless, if you have a Bluetooth-enabled controller or wired gaming controller, you can connect it to your PC to play the games. Of course, Jio recommends the Jio controller or similar for the best in-game experience.
