Meizu 16th is a change from its predecessor which fell flat on the market with its poor hardware. Priced at Rs. 27,500, Meizu 16th does come with necessary modifications that will keep it afloat in the premium market even though it comes at an affordable price.

Meizu 16th is both a looker and a performer, and it meets expectations on both ends. Even the battery of the phone keeps chugging it for a long time. Plus, it has wonderful biometric recognition systems like Face Unlock and In-Display Fingerprint scanner. However, the display does not stand out and the phone falters in its camera department. If you are willing to make certain sacrifices and also experiment with your handsets, then Meizu 16th is here for your taking.

Meizu 16th comes with glass on both front and back and a metal body in between to increase its rigidity. The phone is quite symmetrical. According to the company, it does through a “7-layer coating process” which gives it the ceramic look. As expected, it turns out to be a massive fingerprint magnet. It comes with a 3.5mm headphone jack, a traditionalist’s favourite Andre new USB Type-C port. It is quite lightweight at 152 grams, but not necessarily sleek at 7.3mm.

Meizu 16th arrives with a 6-inch Full HD+ Super AMOLED with an almost 91.18%,  as per Meizu. There is no notch, so you do get a lot of screen space to work with. The side bezels are nearly absent, and the bottom and top bezels are slight. The colour reproduction is good, and the brightness is just high enough to keep it partially legible outdoors. While the display is not the best, it is quite good and will prove you an immersive experience. That’s because of the AMOLED screen, which gives you the deep blacks and incredible dynamic range.

The Meizu 16th is the company’s first phone with a Snapdragon 800 series, coming with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 with 8GB RAM. The phone is a performance beast. It can run multiple apps without any freezing or slowing down. Gaming is a delight on this phone. It can even run high-end games without facing any lags.

The Meizu 16th comes with Android 8.1 Oreo but customises it into Flyme 7. It’s not as fluid as Android but uses the navigation gestures effectively. The phone offers two forms of biometric authentication: on-screen fingerprint scanner and Face Unlock. The fingerprint scanner works fast and is quite accurate. Plus, the Face Unlock turns out to be speedy too.

The camera of Meizu 16th is not any award-winning kind. It has a dual camera module on its back, with a 12MP Sony IMX380 sensor with an f/1.8 aperture and a 20 MP Sony IMX350 sensor with an f/2.6 aperture. It is quite fast and can generate quality daylight shots. It won’t disappoint you but it will not surprise you either. There is a bit of blurring around the edges and the phone does not produce the best colour accuracy. Bright sunlight can cause the images to have a yellowish tinge.

The phone also comes with a 20MP selfie camera with an f/2.0 aperture. It can click decent shots which you can upload in social media sites.

The Meizu 16th sports an impressive 3,010 mAh battery. Regular use can keep it chugging for most of the day, but by the time it is night, you would be running for the charger. Meizu goes for its mCharge for quick charging and not the famous Quick Charge 3.0. The charger is very efficient and can take the phone from zero to 100% within 90-100 minutes.

The Meizu 16th tries to take up a premium spot in the premium market. It does have a lot of aspects going for it. The phone has a decent design and comes with the premium on-display fingerprint scanner. The Snapdragon 800 series processor holds up against anything thrown at it. However, the phone does not come with anything exceptional. Its camera stats are poor too. There is nothing that sets the phone apart from any other set, thereby making it a capable handset for anyone willing to go for a new, experimental model with a symmetrical design going for it.
