MediaTek has unveiled a brand new processor called the Pentonic 2000 SoC today, on November 20, 2021. The MediaTek Pentonic 2000 SoC will be powering the Smart TV category. This newly launched chipset is the latest and next-gen offering by MediaTek in terms of powering flagship 8K TVs.

This is the very first commercial processor in the world which is based on a 7nm TSMC N7 architecture. The 7nm TSMC N7 process offers next-level experience in terms of performance and power efficiency. Icing on the cake is the fact that not only does it bring support for 8K 120Hz displays but also, 144Hz gaming PCs and consoles support.

The chipset also offers other advanced tech support to the table. This includes in-built MEMC which pairs up with a MediaTek APU. This allows the chipset to automatically and efficiently upscale content of lower resolution. Not only does it upscale the content but applies real-time enhancements to the quality of it as well. In addition, the MediaTek Pentonic 2000 SoC brings multiple picture-in-picture support as well.

The brand new chipset by MediaTek also offers an industry-leading CPU and GPU performance. We also get to see support for super fast UFS 3.1 internal storage. One of the best things about the chipset is that it can also be coupled with MediaTek Wi-Fi 6E. This will offer users with 8K content streaming capabilities on their Smart TVs.

The MediaTek Pentonic 2000 is also the very first commercial 8K TV chipset which brings VVC H.266 media support. VVC stands for Versatile Video Coding which offers an enhanced media compression efficiency. What more, it is backed by Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos support as well. The chipset will be powering 8K Smart TVs which will be launching next year.
