There has always been the Xperia 5 line for individuals who adore the Xperia 1 series but are put off by the high price. The Sony Xperia 5 is a smaller, compact, slightly cheaper alternative to the company’s flagship model. That is while maintaining many of the same features. Here is what you can anticipate from the Sony Xperia 5 IV. The newest model in Sony’s Xperia 5 series was just introduced today.

Design and Display

Starting with the design, the Sony Xperia 5 IV doesn’t provide any significant differences. The phone retains its customary rounded corners and slim rectangular shape. Given the current trend of other businesses phasing away headphone connections, the fact that it will include a 3.5mm connector is a welcome surprise.

The hardware will employ Corning Gorilla Glass Victus. This is an upgrade over the Gorilla Glass 6 used in the gadget from last year to increase durability. Additionally, it will feature an IP65/IP68 grade for water and dust protection. Sony said other manufacturers test for IP68, but it checks for both. This is why the phone has two classifications.

The 6.1-inch display on the Xperia 5 IV will have a 21:9 aspect ratio, remaining unchanged from the previous model. Like the Sony Xperia 5 III, the show will include a 120Hz refresh rate and an OLED screen.

Sony asserts that the display will be 50% brighter than the previous year’s. It features an FHD+ resolution, and a real-time HDR drive enhances image quality.

Camera and Audio

Despite stiff competition, the Sony Xperia 5 series consistently outperformed rivals like the iPhone and Google’s Pixel phones. This year, it has 16mm, 24mm, and 60mm 12MP rear cameras in its camera array.

The phone’s front will include a 12MP selfie camera with 4K HDR video recording capabilities. This is an improvement of 4MP over the 8MP selfie camera on the Xperia 5 III.

To improve the clarity of the device’s music, Sony created new speakers in an enclosure that reduces unwanted vibration. Two speakers will be placed front and centre to provide a stereo system for the stage.

The device will also integrate Dolby Atmos and 360 Reality Audio Upmix to improve the audio. It will result in high-quality sound and an immersive 3D audio experience.

Additionally, both wired and wireless connections will deliver high-resolution audio. The Xperia 5 IV uses LDAC, DSEE, and Bluetooth LE Audio for wireless.

Other Features of the Sony Xperia 5 IV

A Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor will power the Sony Xperia 5 IV. According to Sony, this chipset will be more than adequate to power the device’s capabilities. This, nonetheless, places the phone behind different gadgets that employ Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1.

Along with Android 12, this device will debut with three years of security upgrades and two operating system updates. The SIM configuration will be the same as the Xperia 1 IV. That is with an eSIM for the second SIM slot and a tray for a physical SIM and microSD.

A 5,000mAh battery with adaptive charging will also be added to it. According to Sony, adaptive charging will triple the battery’s lifespan. The battery can quickly charge up to 50% in about 30 minutes with a 30W charger.

Launch and Price in India

Although the gadget hasn’t been given a firm release date just yet, most nations should expect it to be on sale around the end of September. Its anticipated debut window in India is sometime around November.

The phone would cost roughly Rs. 80,000 upon launch in India and come in black, green, and ecru white. Depending on your location/retailer, pre-ordering the phone will net you a set of Sony’s brand-new Sony LinkBuds S or Sony WF-1000XM4 earphones.
