Meta has officially launched WhatsApp Plus features for Android and iOS users in India, marking the messaging platform’s first paid subscription service. Priced at Rs 79 per month, the new plan focuses on personalization rather than changing the core messaging experience. Users can access exclusive themes, app icons, ringtones, stickers, and enhanced chat organization tools while continuing to enjoy WhatsApp’s free messaging and calling services.
The subscription is part of Meta’s broader strategy to introduce premium plans across its major social media platforms, including Facebook and Instagram.

The biggest attraction of the new subscription is the ability to customize the look and feel of the app. Subscribers can choose from multiple visual options and additional personalization tools.

- 18 exclusive color themes, including Vibrant Blue, Royal Purple, Forest Green, and Fuchsia Pink
- 14 unique app icon designs
- 10 exclusive ringtones such as Flutter, Ripple, Meadow, and Carnival
- Special sticker packs
- Pin up to 20 chats at the top of the chat list
- Create and customize chat lists for better organization
Meta has confirmed that the subscription does not affect WhatsApp’s core functionality. End to end encryption, voice and video calls, status updates, and messaging remain free for all users.
How To Subscribe And Is It Worth The Price?
Users can subscribe directly through the WhatsApp app by opening Settings > Subscriptions > WhatsApp Plus. After selecting the plan and confirming payment through the Google Play Store, the subscription becomes active.
New users will also receive a one month free trial before the Rs 79 monthly fee begins. Once activated, all premium benefits can be accessed from the Subscriptions section in Settings.
