Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus Design
The Samsung S10 Plus arrives with an edge-to-edge screen in the front and punch holes on the rear which can be distracting. It has the dimensions of about 6.2 x 2.91 x 0.3 inches, and weighs a hefty 174 gm, ensuring that you can’t use it correctly with one hand.
One of the issues is the curve of the display which, while comfortable to hold, may make you accidentally click on buttons when you want to keep the phone. The back panel does not attract fingerprints, and it is quite smooth when you feel it. The phone comes with Face ID and in-display fingerprint scanner.
The fingerprint scanner makes a 3D scan of your finger bringing a significant security boost from the 2D scan of fingers. When activating the Face ID, you have to press the designated and look at the phone to unlock it. The design is pretty futuristic, though it does not come with any new feature that makes it stand out.
Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus Display
The Samsung S10 Plus comes with an edge to edge Infinity-O display with almost zero bezels and a small chin. It has a 6.4-inch quad HD+ Dynamic AMOLED display which is the best display on a Samsung yet. It gets an A+ rating on DisplayMate.
It comes with a Dynamic Tone Mapping which enhances brightness and also comes with a wide colour range. The phone tries to reduce the blue light emission too so that the screen does not harm your eyes. The phone registers 136.5% of sRGb colour gamut and Delta-E colour accuracy of 0.29 (nearer to 0 is better).
The iPhone XS Max’s records a 170.2 per cent and a better accuracy of 0.22. The brightness gets a peak at 625 nits, which makes this phone bright. The iPhone XS registers a lower 606 nits, and the Google Pixel 3 get a much dimmer 362 nits. The phone has a display that sets it apart from the others.
Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus Performance
Samsung S10 Plus arrives with one of the fastest chipsets in the market: the Snapdragon 855. It can run heavy games like Asphalt 9 and Mortal Kombat X on high setting without a lag. The phone records a multi-core score of about 10,735 which is much higher than the 8,972 recorded by OnePlus 6T and 7,316 points of Google Pixel 3.
These phones came with Snapdragon 845. The Samsung S10 Plus, however, gets beaten by Apple’s A12 Bionic chip, fitted in Apple iPhone XS, which reaches 11,420 multicore points. In graphics, however, the phone beat Apple iPhone XS getting 5,648 points, going past XS’ 4,339 and Google Pixel 3 XL’s 4,396 points.
In a video editing test, you can transcode a 4K clip to 1080p in 2 minutes 26 seconds, which took only 39 seconds in iPhone XS.
Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus Camera
The Galaxy S10 Plus comes with five cameras. On the back, there is a 12MP dual-pixel primary shooter with an f/1.5 and f/2.4, a 12MP telephoto lens with f/2.4 aperture with 2x optical zoom and a 16MP ultra-wide camera with an f/2.2 aperture that offers a 123-degree view.
On the front, the phone features two cameras – a 10MP dual-pixel shooter of f/1.8 aperture and a secondary 8MP camera used for depth sensing. The ultra-wide camera will provide a fantastic view of the landscape, making the ending curve pronounced.
Samsung also adds different Live Focus effects like Spin, Zoom, Blur, etc, which sit pretty nicely with the shots. The phone also has AI and dedicated neural processing which allows it to recognize about 30 different subjects which were only 20 in Galaxy Note 9.
The S10 produces brighter and warmer pictures in daylight than the Pixel 2, but certain parts do seem blown out. In low-light, the camera clicks awesome pictures which preserve most of the details of the subject. It even comes with the Bright Mode which produces incredible low-light shots.
Regarding videos, the Samsung S10 Plus comes with a Super Steady mode which allows promises to keep videos stabilised even if you were cycling!. The Super Steady mode does work well, since with Super Steady Mode turned off, the videos recorded slight jerks while walking.
The front camera provides both wide-angle and standard snaps. The blurring effect is quite good, but the overall image turns out to be a bit smooth and over-processed. In bright sunlight, the details can get blown out. In low light, it can do a better job at preserving the details of the subject though there is slight visual noise captured too.
Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus Battery
The Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus arrives with a 4,100 mAh battery which is one of the biggest juice-pack in a premium Android model. In battery tests, it got a marvelous 12 hours and 35 minutes runtime, which went past 11 hours and 26 minutes of Note 9 and 10 hours and 36 seconds of Apple iPhone XS Max.
Due to wireless charging, the phone supports Qi charging too. The fast charging does not come with many improvements and so, you get from 0 to 100% after 2 hours of charge.
Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus Verdict
The Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus comes with blazing-fast performance, slim design, and stunning camera. Plus, the marvelous design keeps it ahead of its competitors. The fingerprint scanner in the Samsung comes within the display making it secure and stylish.
The phone is a beauty and one of the best Android phones in the current market. However, performance and audio-wise, the phone does get beaten by Apple iPhone XS Max. If you happen to be an Android fanatic, then this phone can be a potent acquisition. However, if you are flexible in your choices, then you could consider the iPhone XS Max too.
