Honor Play 3e has the looks and the specifications of a budget phone. Priced at Rs. 7,090, the phone comes in competition with the low-priced Redmi models and tries to take the budget all-rounder spot.

However, the Honor Play 3e remains a dated model, even with its budget setting. The phone has a small display and fails to give a moderate performance. The camera on this phone is also quite poor. If you are seeking a budget phone, then there are better alternatives than the Honor Play 3e.

Honor Play 3e is a budget phone from the premium Honor brand. It has a few pros and cons:

  • Honor Play 3e has a compact design which is comfortable to hold.
  • It has slim bezels to enhance your immersive experience.
  • The phone can handle basic tasks easily with its low-tier processor.
  • Honor Play 3e has a decent battery that can keep it chugging for the whole day with light use.

  • Honor Play 3e has a small display which is quite poor. The colours on the screen appear washed-out.
  • The Honor Play 3e cannot handle intensive tasks. Multitasking can slow it down.
  • The Honor Play 3e has only one camera on its back, and it clicks grainy shots.

Honor Play 3e stays within the budget zone and remains a budget handset. The phone does not bother to get the user anything new except a strictly low-budget experience. However, at this range, there are better phones available from other brands. Unless you are an Honor fan, this phone is not a value-for-money phone and not a recommended purchase.

Expert Opinion

Honor Play 3e is a strictly budget phone with low-tier performance, poor display, and dated photo-clicking capabilities.

Honor Play 3e arrives with a 5.71-inch display. It is a small screen, and hence, it might cause a bit of a problem for people who are used to 6-inch screens. Nowadays, the standard display is 6-inch or above. The display resolution is at 720×1520 pixels with a poor pixel density of 294 pixels per inch. Overall, you will not get a very immersive experience with this phone. It is not very bright, and so, it is not recommended for you to go out with this phone in harsh sunlight.

Honor Play 3e comes with a basic design. It has a moderately large display with thin bezels on the side and a thick chin. On the back, the phone arrives with a single camera. There is no fingerprint scanner. It has the power and volume rocker button present on its right side. As a budget phone, the Honor Play 3e keeps the design as budget-like as possible. The design of this phone will not attract you.

Honor Play 3e gets its power from the octa-core MediaTek Helio P22 processor. This processor is a low-budget processor and can handle basic tasks. You can run simultaneous apps with this processor, but the background apps will slow-down the phone and app-loading times will be stuttery too. The phone arrives with 2GB of RAM, making multitasking even slower. You cannot run high-end games on this phone. While basic games can run on this phone, it can result in some frame drops.

The Honor Play 3e has only one 13MP camera on the rear panel. Hence, you cannot click proper portrait photos on this phone. In the day, the photos turned out to be a bit washed out and lacking in detail. Low-light images carry a lot of noise. In the front, the phone arrives with a 5MP camera. The selfies are not very impressive but can be used for social media. However, in low-light, the selfies appear very grainy.

Honor Play 3e has a 3,020mAh battery. This battery is much lower than the standard 4,000 mAh battery that most modern phones arrive with. However, since the Honor Play 3e does not have an AMOLED screen and has a power-efficient processor, it can be used for a whole day with light tasks. Intensive tasks will make the phone laggy and can drain the battery fast.

The Honor Play 3e comes as a budget phone, and it strictly remains within the budget smartphone zone. It has a single camera on its back and a basic design. The display is washed-out and non-immersive. The Honor Play 3e has an okay battery and performance for a budget handset. However, as per the price, the phone seems to be overpriced due to its Honor tag. There are better phones present in the market at this range with the likes of Redmi and Realme budget phones.
