    Verdict
  • In India, the broadband market is consistently growing across Tier 1 and Tier 2 cities. Many local players have entered the market, offering better internet speeds and competitive pricing. However, they often struggle to build customer trust and provide reliable after-sales service.

At the same time, the main players are also in the market, holding the highest market share. But I have also come across plenty of negative reviews about JioFiber and Airtel Xstream Fiber. However, my personal experience with Airtel Xstream Fiber has been completely different and has changed my opinion about the service.

In this article, I’ll share my complete Airtel Xstream Fiber experience, covering internet performance, gaming performance, installation, customer support, after-sales service, and everything else you need to know before choosing a broadband connection.

Why I Chose Airtel Xstream Fiber Over Jio and a Local Provider

Before choosing a broadband connection, I researched a lot about the major broadband providers, including their plans, installation charges, internet speeds, and customer service. I also spent hours reading real user experiences on Reddit and X (formerly Twitter). You can simply search your target keywords on these platforms to find genuine reviews from existing users.

Airtel Fiber vs Jio Fiber vs Local Provider

Honestly, I came across the most negative experiences about Jio Fiber. Another reason I decided against it was that no one in my room uses a Jio SIM, so it wasn’t the best fit for us. I also had the option of going with a local broadband provider, but I couldn’t because of the lack of trust. I wanted peace of mind after the installation, especially when it came to after-sales support. Plus, none of my friends was using a local broadband service, so I couldn’t get any real-life feedback. That’s why I dropped that idea.

Finally, I chose Airtel Xstream Fiber, which I’m currently using. The main reasons were the zero installation charge, free 24×7 customer support, and internet speeds that were more than enough for my work-from-home needs. I even visited a few of my friends who were already using Airtel Xstream Fiber, and all of them shared positive experiences. That gave me the confidence to choose Airtel Broadband over the other available options.

    Installation Experience and Setup Process

My installation experience was quite good. I received an Airtel promotional flyer with the contact number of a representative near my room. I called them and told them that I wanted an Airtel Xstream Fiber connection as soon as possible.

They informed me that they could install the router the same day, but for the first installation, I had to subscribe to a six-month Wi-Fi plan. After that, I would be free to switch to a monthly recharge plan. I thought about it for a while and decided to go ahead.

    Airtel Fiber

The reason behind this is quite understandable. Since the company sends technicians to install the connection at no extra charge, they need assurance that the customer will continue using the service. Choosing the six-month Wi-Fi plan confirms that you’ll use Airtel Broadband for at least six months, which helps offset the installation cost.

The Airtel representative arrived at my room on the same day, installed the router, and activated the connection within a few hours. Overall, my installation experience and setup process were smooth. You only need to wait about 1 to 1.5 hours for the entire process to be completed.

Plan Pricing, Hidden Charges, and Overall Value for Money

For the last year, I have continuously recharged with the standard ₹499 plan, which comes to around ₹588 after including taxes. With this plan, I get up to 40 Mbps speed, which is more than enough for my work-from-home needs. The plan also includes unlimited internet and unlimited calls, along with Google One for six months, Airtel Xstream Play (as per the plan), an Apollo 24/7 subscription for six months, and Adobe Express Premium for 12 months.

    Airtel Wifi recharge Plan

For the first time, I couldn’t recharge my Wi-Fi for three days because no one was staying in my room. I thought that if nobody was using the connection, I could simply recharge it three days later and get an additional three days of validity, just like a prepaid mobile recharge. However, this was my misunderstanding. Airtel added a ₹100 late payment charge to my bill.

    Airtel wifi bill

But one of the best things I experienced was Airtel’s customer support. I simply requested the customer support team to revise my bill and waive the late payment charge. They immediately removed the ₹100 late fee without any hassle. This was a really positive experience and one of the reasons I had a good impression of Airtel Xstream Fiber.

Moreover, there are several other Airtel Xstream Fiber Wi-Fi plans available as well, which you can check in the table below.

    Speed Tests

Honestly, I never experienced any noticeable latency in internet speed during the last year. Yes, I sometimes experienced slower internet speeds or temporary network issues during the monsoon season, but these problems never lasted long.

    Speed test by Ookala

I also checked the connection speed using both the Ookla Speedtest and Google’s built-in speed test. In both tests, I consistently got speeds of around 40 Mbps, which is exactly what my plan promises.

    Google Speed test

You might be wondering whether speed varies by time of day, such as in the morning, afternoon, evening, or late at night. My simple answer is no. I didn’t notice any difference in internet speed throughout the day. I consistently received the same speeds regardless of the time.

Streaming Performance on YouTube, JioHotstar, Netflix, and OTT Platforms

I mostly spend my time watching live cricket matches on JioHotstar and occasionally stream videos on YouTube as well. Honestly, I never experienced any noticeable latency or long-lasting buffering during live matches.

Rarely, I noticed slightly slower internet speeds, but the connection became stable again within a short time.

So, if you are looking for Airtel Xstream Fiber mainly for OTT streaming, live cricket matches, or other entertainment platforms, you can definitely go with it without any hesitation.

Work-from-Home Experience, Including Google Meet and Large File Uploads

Similarly, I have been working from home for the last two years. In the beginning, I was completely dependent on my mobile phone hotspot, where I frequently ran out of data before completing my work. I also faced unstable Google Meet calls and issues while uploading or downloading large files.

After switching to Airtel Xstream Fiber, I never experienced these problems again. Similarly, I have never faced sudden disconnections during Google Meet calls or any major issues while uploading or downloading large files. Overall, my work-from-home experience has been smooth and reliable.

Gaming Performance with Ping, Latency, and Stability Analysis

Gaming is one of the most interesting aspects of Airtel Xstream Fiber. Currently, I use two refurbished devices: the iPad Pro 3rd gen and Apple iPhone 16 Plus. Previously, I also used several smartphones across different price ranges. I have played BGMI on most of these devices, and I never noticed high ping during gameplay. Most of the time, the ping stayed around 20 ms, and occasionally it reached 60 ms, which is still perfectly playable.

    gaming ping

As a result, I was able to enjoy a smooth, lag-free gaming experience without any major connectivity issues. I have also attached screenshots from all three devices, where you can clearly see the in-game ping performance.

Customer Support Response Time and Issue Resolution Experience

Customer support has always been one of the best things about Airtel Xstream Fiber. I live in a densely populated area where many internet cables hang quite low across the streets. Because of this, my Wi-Fi cable has been damaged three times due to mini trucks or vehicles carrying tall goods passing through the area.

Whenever this happened, I simply opened the Airtel Thanks app and went to the Wi-Fi section. If your Wi-Fi isn’t working, the app automatically redirects you to the “Raise a Concern” section for customer support.

You just need to provide an alternate contact number and your preferred time for a visit. Airtel then registers your complaint and shares the executive’s contact number within a few minutes.

    Airtel Xstream Fiber

If you raise the complaint late at night, their representative usually visits early the next morning to resolve the issue. A few months ago, my Wi-Fi stopped working for a few minutes, so I raised a complaint. However, the connection started working again on its own after a short while.

Even then, I received a call from an Airtel executive informing me that they could see my Wi-Fi was working normally again. They still asked me to share the service OTP so they could officially mark the issue as resolved in their system.

That level of follow-up and commitment was really commendable, and it left a very positive impression on me.

    • Excellent customer support and quick issue resolution.
    • Smooth work-from-home experience with stable Google Meet calls.
    • Lag-free streaming on YouTube, JioHotstar, and other OTT platforms.

    Cons

    • Six-month advance recharge required for new installation (in my case).
    • ₹100 late payment charge if you miss the bill due date (though it can be waived by customer support).
