With much fanfare amidst much speculation, the 5G network was launched in India by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the sixth edition of the Indian Mobile Congress. However, on October 6, 2022, the telecom giant Airtel launched the list of smartphones compatible with Airtel 5G Plus network offering benefits over the regular 5G network in India.

It was only on October 1, 2022, that the two telecom brands, namely, Airtel and Reliance Jio launched their 5G network offering in India. Airtel started its services in eight cities: Delhi, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, Siliguri, Nagpur and Varanasi. While Reliance Jio has started services in Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, and Varanasi alone.

The network operator requires the same update by the original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) of the Apple mobiles. Currently, it has listed the handset name for Apple smartphones compatible with Airtel 5G Plus.

They are Apple iPhone 12 Mini, Apple iPhone 12, Apple iPhone 12 Pro, Apple iPhone 12 Pro Max, Apple iPhone 13 Mini, Apple iPhone 13, Apple iPhone 13 Pro, and Apple iPhone 13 ProMax.

How to check if your phone is 5G enabled?

You can easily check if your phone is 5G enabled by following simple steps via settings:

For iOS:

The iPhone 12 and higher models are compatible with the 5G network. Once you opt for a 5G carrier, it should reflect the same under Cellular or Mobile Data. Go to Mobile Data > Mobile Data Options > Voice and Data. After purchasing a required 5G plan, it should show the signal on your phone. (if the 5G network connection has rolled out in your area.)

For Android:

Check among the listed handsets for the respective brands mentioned in the section above. If your phone is 5G compatible, then:

Navigate to Wi-Fi & Network > SIM & Network > Preferred Network Type. Here you will get a network available for your SIM – 2G/3G/4G/5G.

Alternatively, for Airtel, you can check the 5G connectivity by going to your Airtel application for mobile phones. Under the Manage section, scroll down to find “Check if your phone is 5G enabled“. With a simple click, you can see the results accordingly.
