The iPhone 15 Pro Max could launch with a new name- iPhone 15 Ultra and will get some new features worthy of this name. Rumours have been swirling around that the company could release an Ultra model to compete with Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra. This means that there won’t be an iPhone 15 Pro Max model in the lineup this year.

According to a tweet by Andrew O’Hara, a journalist at AppleInsider, the Cupertino giant will use the iPhone 15 Ultra moniker for its top-of-the-line model. The 15 Ultra could get a new periscope telephoto lens, enabling up to 10x zoom capability. This will be similar to the Galaxy S23 Ultra, which has a 10x optical zoom lens.

iPhone 15 Ultra Expected Specifications

Previous rumours suggested that the iPhone 15 Ultra could arrive with a 5x or 6x zoom capability. However, now we can expect up to 10x optical zoom. While Samsung uses a 10-megapixel telephoto lens for this feature, there is no clarity on the type of sensor that Apple will utilize.

The iPhone 15 Ultra will also have a larger display apart from the telephoto lens to differentiate it from the Pro model. Both models will arrive with a titanium frame and an action button instead of the mute switch. Furthermore, they will feature the Bionic A17 processor based on a 3nm architecture.

The iPhone 15 lineup will be the first series to ship with a USB-Type C port instead of the proprietary lightning port. The new phones are rumoured to sport a 48-megapixel primary camera with a Sony IMX903 1-inch sensor. The 15 Ultra will have slimmer bezels and will include a 2TB storage variant. As a result of these upgrades, the phone could be $200 more expensive than last year, although we will get the full details when Apple officially announces it on September 12th.
