Businesses in India will soon have to pay for more types of WhatsApp messages. Meta is revising its WhatsApp Business Platform pricing from October 1, 2026, changing how businesses are charged for customer communication.

The new Business WhatsApp messages price will mainly affect utility messages such as order confirmations and delivery updates. These messages were previously free when sent within 24 hours of a customer contacting a business. The changes apply only to the WhatsApp Business Platform, not regular WhatsApp or the WhatsApp Business app.

Business WhatsApp Messages Price: What Changes To Expect?

Business WhatsApp Messages new Pricing explained

Under the new pricing structure, Meta will start charging businesses for utility messages sent within the 24 hour customer service window. This includes messages such as order confirmations and delivery notifications.

However, businesses will receive 1,000 free service replies per month for each business phone number. After that limit, additional service replies will be charged.

    The key changes include:

    • Utility messages: Rs 0.115 per delivered message before GST
    • Marketing messages: Rs 0.8631 per message before GST
    • Authentication messages such as OTPs: Rs 0.115 per message before GST
    • First 1,000 service replies each month: Free
    • Messages after the 24 hour service window: Charged as before

With 18% GST, a Rs 0.115 utility message costs approximately Rs 0.136. For example, 1,000 paid utility messages would cost Rs 115 before GST and around Rs 135.70 after GST.

What Will Remain Free For Businesses?

Meta is not making every WhatsApp Business interaction chargeable. Businesses will continue to receive 1,000 free service messages every month for each business phone number.

Customers can also continue to message businesses without paying any charges. The company will also maintain the existing 72 hour free messaging window for businesses that receive customers through Click to WhatsApp ads or call to action buttons on Facebook Pages.

For customers, there is no change. They will not have to pay to send messages to businesses or receive replies.

The pricing revision could increase communication costs for businesses that regularly send order updates, delivery notifications and customer service messages through the WhatsApp Business Platform.
