Xiaomi’s HyperOS 4 update brings more than a visual refresh. Based on Android 17, the latest software update adds new AI features, performance improvements, lock screen customisation, and better connectivity between Xiaomi devices. Among the many changes, these five HyperOS 4 upgrades stand out for their impact on everyday use.
HyperOS 4 Upgrades Bring Soft Light Glass UI, Smarter AI Features
One of the biggest changes is Xiaomi’s new Soft Light Glass design. It adds translucent layers, dynamic glass effects and blurred elements across the interface. The design appears on the lock screen, home screen, icons, widgets, folders and Control Centre.

The full visual experience will be available mainly on newer flagship devices powered by chips such as:
• Snapdragon 8 Elite or newer
• MediaTek Dimensity 9500 or newer
• Xiaomi Xring O1 or newer
HyperOS 4 upgrades also introduce Super XiaoAi 2.0, powered by Xiaomi’s MiMo V2.5 large language model. The assistant can understand screen content, remember information and perform tasks across different apps.
Its Expert Mode can handle multi step commands, while the new Inspiration Ball can suggest actions based on what appears on the screen. Xiaomi has also added AI features to apps such as Recorder and Voice Notes for creating summaries, extracting key points and generating tasks.
Performance, Lock Screen And Dual Phone Features
Performance is another major focus of HyperOS 4. Xiaomi says its AI based memory preloading system can deliver 27.2% more available memory and 17% faster app launches after extended use.
The HyperCore engine also reduces redundant CPU instructions by around 14.4% compared with HyperOS 3. Xiaomi claims smoother Gallery scrolling, faster camera startup and quicker HDR photo processing.
The redesigned lock screen gives users more control over clock layouts. Users can resize, reposition and stretch the clock, while notifications now appear in a vertically stacked format. Spatial depth effects can also place subjects in front of the clock or other lock screen elements.
Another notable feature is Dual Phone Syncing. It allows two Xiaomi, Redmi or POCO phones to share incoming calls and SMS verification codes over the internet, even when they use different networks. Both devices need to use the same Xiaomi account.
The feature is currently limited to China, although Xiaomi could expand it to other markets later. Together, these HyperOS 4 upgrades make the update a substantial step beyond a simple Android version refresh.
