OnePlus 9R OxygenOS 12 Open Beta Update: Here’s How to Get It

A beta version of OxygenOS 12 was finally launch for the OnePlus 9R and launched in India in March 2021 with two other OnePlus 9-series devices. The OxygenOS 12 beta update for the OnePlus 9R will deliver a slew of new features, including the Canvas always-on display (AOD) feature and Work-Life Balance mode.

However, the OxygenOS 12 upgrade for the OnePlus 9R is a beta test. Therefore, users should be aware that it may include some issues.

In an official blog post, OnePlus revealed the OxygenOS 12 open beta upgrade for the OnePlus 9R (review). All the newest Android 12 features are there in this release.

What’s new about the OnePlus 9R OxygenOS 12 beta?

Improved textures have been added to the desktop icons for OnePlus’s budget-friendly flagship phone. Additionally, the OnePlus 9R has an optimised Dark Mode with three levels of brightness adjustment. Furthermore, the OnePlus Shelf now includes new Earphone Control, OnePlus Scout, OnePlus Watch Cards, and extra aesthetic choices for Cards.

Once you upgrade to the OxygenOS 12 open beta, you’ll also have access to the OnePlus 9R’s Work-Life Balance (WLB) function. A toggle in the quick settings will allow users to switch between the Work and Life modes when the update comes. In addition, WLB 2.0 now can automatically transition between work and life modes depending on location, Wi-Fi network, and time.

Users may also adjust the OnePlus 9R’s Gallery layout with a two-fingered pinch motion. This will allow you to trim images, even more, depending on their content for thumbnails. Additionally, the Canvas AOD is there in the open beta version of OxygenOS 12. It now has a variety of brushes and strokes and the ability to change the colour. Improved face recognition and a more efficient algorithm round out the list of new features.

Because not all applications have been optimising for Android 12, OnePlus warns customers that their devices may fail from time to time. For example, the clock’s dial display may not be there when AOD is on. In addition, before installing the open beta update, a smartphone should have at least 30% battery life and 3GB of free storage space.

How to upgrade?

Users of the OnePlus 9R are urged to back up their data. But the Upgrade may not erase your data, according to OnePlus.

• Obtain the newest ROM upgrade zip file from the provided location and install it.
• It’s time to install the ROM update.
• Take a look under System Updates in the Settings menu. Click the top-right icon and choose “Local upgrade” from the drop-down menu to update locally. To upgrade an existing installation, select it and then select Upgrade.
• Click Restart to restart your computer after the update has been completed.
