If you have ever tried transferring your WhatsApp data from iOS to Android, you know it is tricky. It is because the platform uses different services for backup on different platforms. However, now it looks like it is trying to simplify the process of moving from an iPhone to Android. Apparently, its’ a feature in the works will make it possible to backup chats on one platform and then restore them on another.

Although it is possible to migrate from Android to iOS in taking all of your WhatsApp chats with you. However, it is not the same for vice-versa. A future migration feature addresses one of the biggest shortcomings of WhatsApp’s backup capabilities. Google’s Data Restore Tool may soon allow users to transfer their chats from iOS to Android devices.

The latest update reportedly shows references for copying WhatsApp chat history from an iPhone to an Android phone. However, Google has not shared any information on the WhatsApp cross-platform chat transfer feature.

According to 9to5Google, the latest update to the app — version 1.0.382048734 — had references. Especially of copying WhatsApp chats and history from an iPhone to an Android phone in its code. The references included “Scan the QR code with your iPhone to open WhatsApp, then tap Start”, “Keep your iPhone unlocked and Whats App open”, “Trouble scanning? On your iPhone, open Whats App, then go to Settings > Chats > Move Chats to Android”, among others.

This is based on several strings referencing the data transfer of WhatsApp from iOS to Android. Moreover, there is a chance that this feature might rely on a future WhatsApp feature in order to work. Meanwhile, the platform recently updated its calling interface for iPhone users. In the end making it easier to add people to an ongoing call and allow them to join a group call even after it starts. This new interface has been made available to Android users as well over the last week.
