Tecno is a brand that is very much unheard of in India but it is one of the largest smartphone brands operating in Africa and has quite recently started to operate in the South Asia region including in India. The recently released Tecno Camon 15 Pro to make a name in the mid-range segment. Featuring a 6.6-inch screen, a quad-camera setup, an octa-core processor with a 4000mAh battery. Available in two colours, the Tecno Camon 15 Pro comes in a single storage and memory configuration.

The Tecno Camon 15 Pro is priced at ₹15,999 for the single 6GB+128GB variant offered. The handset itself is available to purchase from various online retail sites.

Tecno Camon 15 Pro features a glass front and a plastic back with a plastic frame in-between. The front-side has the FullView 6.6-inch screen while the back-side has the quad-camera setup and the fingerprint scanner. The power and the volume buttons are placed on the right side of the device. The top has the pop-up camera and the bottom has the loudspeaker, the micro USB port, the microphone, and the headphone jack. The device weighs in at 203g and is 9.05mm thick. The device is available in 2 colours, Ice Jadeite and Opal White, both of which give a shiny look to the back-side of the device.

The screen on the Tecno Camon 15 Pro is a 6.6-inch 1080 by 2340 pixel FHD+ IPS LCD. The display is capable of outputting up to 16M colours and is having a pixel density of 390ppi. The screen-to-body ratio is at 84.3% which is decent and the aspect ratio is 19.5:9. Since the front camera is a pop-up camera, the display is having no obstructions such as a notch or a hole-punch cutout.

The brains in this machine is a Mediatek Helio P35 octa-core processor, which is built on the 12nm FinFET process. This processor can clock up to 2.35GHz and has 8 Cortex-A53 cores. There is 128GB of storage available which can be further expanded via the dedicated microSD card slot provided. The memory on this one is handled by 6GB of RAM.

The Tecno Camon 15 Pro runs on Android 10 which is customized using Tecno’s own HIOS 6.0 custom skin.

The photography on the Tecno Camon 15 Pro is handled by the quad-camera setup in the rear and the pop-up selfie camera on the front.

The quad-camera setup on the back consists of a 48MP main sensor with PDAF and 8x zoom, a 5MP super wide-angle camera with 115˚ field-of-view, a 2MP bokeh sensor, and a TAIVOS™/AI Lens which makes better edge correction and multi-frame noise reduction, producing more pure and clear night shot. Features like Dual-LED flash, panorama, HDR, etc. are inbuilt for taking great pictures. The video output via this camera is rated at 1080p at 30fps.

The front camera is a motorized 32MP pop-up camera with support for HDR. The video output via this camera is also rated at 1080p at 30fps.

Providing power to the Tecno Camon 15 Pro is a huge 4000mAh Li-Po battery. There is no mention of fast charging support for this device and considering that this has a micro USB port, fast charging is not that feasible.

Unheard brands like Tecno are putting out affordable and feature-packed mid-range devices which are ready to take on the big names like Realme, Oppo, Vivo, Samsung, and Xiaomi with smartphones like these. The Tecno Camon 15 Pro is a great device with some minor shortcomings which if addressed can make the next iteration a bit more powerful and a bit more competitive with the other offerings in the market.
