I still remember the time when my phone was just a normal gadget that played music and let me text my friends. Although it’s hard to imagine it now. Today, your phone can do almost anything. There are times when I feel like it can also read my mind. That’s AI for you. None of us 90s kids imagined that AI would be an important part of our lives so soon. But here it is.
In this guide, I am going to talk about the journey of AI through the years! Trust me, it has been a fast-paced story.

AI And Everyday Gadgets!

Let’s take you five years back. Imagine clicking a photo in dim light, and you are unable to fix that blurry mess. Ask a question to Siri or Bixby only to hear, “Sorry, didn’t catch it”. Now fast forward it to 2026, AI has turned your phone into a legit helper ready to do anything and is just a command away.

Cameras use AI to brighten night shots automatically, fix faces in group photos, and remove strangers photobombing your pic. It’s like having a professional photographer who never gets tired! And it’s not just phones. Your smartwatch tracks your steps and suddenly says, “Hey, you seem stressed, do you want a quick breathing exercise?”
You can now just click a photo of your fridge and get recipes based on the ingredients. It’s so correct that it leaves you surprised! My sister opens her phone, snaps a pic of whatever’s in the fridge, and her AI gives a simple recipe in seconds.
ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, And Copilot Become Everyone’s Chatty Pals
Then came 2022, the year everything flipped. ChatGPT stepped into the spotlight and suddenly everyone was talking to AI like it was the long lost buddy. You typed a question, and it answered in full sentences, cracked jokes, even wrote poems about moon!

Students used it to explain tricky math problems in plain words. Writers asked it for story ideas, and metaphors when they felt stuck. People used it to draft polite emails so they didn’t sound angry on a Monday. Google jumped in with Gemini. It’s great at mixing words with pictures.
Anthropic’s Claude became the thoughtful one, careful and creative. It is perfect for brainstorming school projects. Microsoft’s Copilot slid right into your computer. It helps you organise spreadsheets or turn rough notes into a beautiful presentation.
My nephew uses ChatGPT to explain complex physics like he is a 10 year old and the results are amazing. That’s the beauty, there are no big words, just simple explanation that helps.
Apple Intelligence
Apple introduced Apple Intelligence a few years back. It helps with writing, photos, chatting, and exploring the world around you. For example, it can summarise a long email so you understand it quickly, then help you reply politely.

It can also clean up your photos, like removing strangers or unwanted objects with a click. With tools like Image Playground and Genmoji, you can make fun cartoons, create custom emojis, or even turn your doodles into images.
Visual Intelligence helps you identify plants, buildings, or objects, suggest where to buy them, or even add events to your calendar. Live Translation makes talking to people in other languages easy and fast.

The Next Level: Agentic AI Steps Up
Here’s where the story gets really exciting. AI is now less of a quiet listener and became an action hero. We call this “agentic AI.” Regular chatbots answer questions. Agentic AI actually does things on its own. Think of it like this: you say, “Plan a weekend trip to Himachal or Uttrakhand under Rs. 10,000,” and the AI doesn’t just list ideas. It checks bus tickets, books the cheapest one, suggests a menu based on the weather, and even reminds you to pack thermals.

It plans step by step, uses tools (like calendars or maps), and gets the job done. People are already using it in fun ways. Yesterday I used it to order handmade Jasmine soap from Amazon and it worked perfectly.
AI connects the dots so you can spend time on the stuff that really matters.
What Happens Next?
We’ve gone from AI quietly improving photos to AI chatting like a friend and now to AI that get things done. AI is getting better at understanding us. It’s not because it’s trying to be smarter than humans, but because it wants to help us live happier.
Have you tried asking an AI to plan your next birthday party or turn your doodle into a cartoon? Tell me how you like to use AI, I’d love to hear it!
