Google has started rolling out the Android 17 QPR1 Beta 5 Update for eligible Pixel smartphones, bringing several bug fixes and performance improvements. The latest beta release arrives just days after the stable version of Android 17 became available and appears to contain hints of a new wallpaper customisation feature inspired by Apple’s iOS.
While Google has not officially announced any major new additions in this beta build, reports suggest that the update includes code for a feature called Photo Shuffle, which could automatically change wallpapers using selected photos from a user’s gallery.
Android 17 QPR1 Beta 5 Update May Introduce Photo Shuffle

According to an APK teardown report, the Android 17 QPR1 Beta 5 Update contains references to a new Photo Shuffle feature. The functionality is said to work similarly to Apple’s Photo Shuffle option available on iPhones.
The feature could allow users to create a dedicated album containing their favorite images. Android would then automatically rotate those images as wallpapers on the lock screen or home screen.

- Create a custom wallpaper album
- Use an existing photo album
- Automatic wallpaper rotation
- Personalized wallpaper collections featuring family members and pets
- Multiple refresh timing options
The report suggests that users may find the feature under:
Settings > Wallpaper & Style > More Wallpapers > Collection
