Apple has enlisted Tata Group to oversee repairs for iPhones and MacBooks in India, a move that highlights the growing involvement of the Indian conglomerate in the U.S. tech giant’s supply chain, according to two sources with knowledge of the matter. Tata has quickly become a crucial supplier for Apple, operating three facilities in southern India where iPhones are assembled for both domestic and international markets. A report citing sources reveals that repairs of iPhone and MacBook will be carried out at Tata’s established iPhone assembly campus in Karnataka, India. Tata is assuming the repair responsibilities from ICT Service Management Solutions, the Indian subsidiary of Taiwan’s Wistron.

While Apple’s authorized service centers in India will continue handling routine repairs, more intricate servicing will now be directed to Tata’s specialized facility. Wistron’s ICT division will continue serving its other clients, excluding Apple.

Tata Electronics has become an increasingly important player in Apple’s supply chain in India. The company has begun assembling iPhones, including models from the iPhone 16 series, at its Hosur facility in Tamil Nadu. With the iPhone 17 launch approaching, Tata has significantly scaled up production.
According to Counterpoint Research, around 11 million iPhones were sold in India last year, boosting Apple’s market share to 7%, a significant increase from just 1% in 2020.
