Discord has delayed its controversial global age verification rollout until the second half of 2026, following intense user backlash over privacy concerns, potential surveillance, and a recent data breach.
The Discord age verification rollout was originally set for March. The plan would default unverified users to a “teen” experience, restricting access to age-gated content, with verification via face scans, IDs, or third-party vendors.
But now, this plan is put on hold. In a February 24 blog post, CTO Stanislav Vishnevskiy admitted the company “missed the mark” on communication and transparency. Over 90% of users are expected to avoid verification through internal signals.
