If you happen to own a low-end smartphone or just don’t like the Instagram App, you might be familiar with Instagram Lite. The Facebook-owned company has been gradually adding new features to the Lite version of the app.

The latest feature to make its way to Instagram Lite is the ability to view Reels within the app itself. Having said that, the feature is currently available only to Indian users. Instagram reels let users create short 15 second clips with the ability to use various filters and effects. The newly introduced feature comes as an alternative to TikTok, which was recently banned in India.

Launched in September 2020, Instagram Lite is available on the Google Play Store. The app itself takes up less than 2 MB and comes with all the basic features offered by Instagram. In terms of looks, the Lite version is similar to the normal version of the app.

However, some features such as the ability to view Reels and IGTV Creation were missing from the app until now. The developers have now come up with a new “Reels” tab where you can watch all Reels. The Lite version of the app still lacks the IGTV and the ability to create Reels. Instagram might not add these features since they want users to switch to the full version of the app.

The Reels feature in the Lite version might be available in India due to the quick adoption of the feature in the country. We expect the company to launch the feature worldwide in the next couple of weeks.
