  • Apple has started rolling out the iOS 26.5.1 Update for eligible iPhone users. The latest software update arrives nearly three weeks after the release of iOS 26.5 and focuses on fixing a charging issue that affected a small number of users. According to Apple, the update is specifically designed for the Apple iPhone Air and the entire Apple iPhone 17 series.

The company says the update resolves a bug that could stop wired charging from working when the battery level became critically low. The release comes after several users reported problems with their devices failing to charge after the battery had completely drained.

In its official release notes, Apple confirmed that the iOS 26.5.1 Update addresses an issue where certain iPhone Air and iPhone 17 devices could not begin wired charging when the battery was nearly empty.

Users reported situations where their phones became unresponsive after shutting down due to a drained battery. Even after connecting a USB Type C charger, some devices showed no signs of life for several minutes. In some cases, the screen remained black without displaying the low battery icon or the Apple logo.

Several users also tried common troubleshooting methods, including:

    • Force restarting the device
    • Using different charging cables
    • Switching power adapters
    • Connecting the iPhone to a computer

However, these steps reportedly did not solve the problem.

    How To Install This Update

Apple recommends affected users install the latest software as soon as possible. Users can download the update by following these steps:

    • Open Settings
    • Tap General
    • Select Software Update
    • Tap Install Now

The update size is approximately 12.71GB on the iPhone 17.

The software arrives shortly before Apple’s annual developer conference, WWDC 2026, which begins on June 8. While Apple has not directly connected the update to wider battery drain complaints, the company’s description strongly suggests that the fix targets charging behavior on affected devices.

With the iOS 26.5.1 Update now rolling out, Apple appears focused on improving stability and reliability for current iPhone users before shifting its attention to the development of iOS 27.
