  • The Government of India has officially rolled out the New Aadhaar app, introducing more secure and privacy-focused features for citizens to manage and verify their Aadhaar identity. Developed by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), the app replaces the older mAadhaar platform and offers several advanced features designed to give users greater control over their personal information.

UIDAI has also confirmed that the existing mAadhaar app will not work in the near future. Users are now being encouraged to switch to the new platform, which promises faster verification, smarter authentication methods, and better privacy protection.

New Aadhaar App Features: Focus On Privacy And User Control

New Aadhaar App comes with privacy first approach

One of the biggest features of the New Aadhaar app is its privacy-first approach. Unlike previous Aadhaar verification methods that often revealed complete personal information, the new app allows users to share only the details required for a specific purpose.

The app supports QR code based verification, Face Authentication, and consent based data sharing. This means users no longer need to carry physical Aadhaar cards or hand over photocopies at hotels, hospitals, offices, and other locations.

Key features of the New Aadhaar app include:

    • QR code based Aadhaar verification
    • Face Authentication support
    • Selective sharing of Aadhaar information
    • One click biometric lock and unlock
    • Authentication history tracking
    • Support for up to five Aadhaar profiles on one device
    • Mobile number update service
    • Address update service
    • Masked Aadhaar verification option
    • Biometric unlock support for extra security

The platform is built around the principles of the Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act and focuses on reducing unnecessary sharing and storage of Aadhaar information.

    mAadhaar To Be Discontinued Soon

UIDAI has announced that the older mAadhaar app will soon stop functioning. Citizens using the old application may download the New Aadhaar app from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store and complete the setup process.

To activate the app, users need to:

    • Enter their Aadhaar linked mobile number
    • Verify the number using OTP
    • Complete Face Authentication
    • Create a six digit security PIN
    • Enable biometric unlock if preferred

The new Aadhaar app will have new features designed for everyday use cases such as hotel check-ins, hospital visits, age verification, gig worker onboarding, and service partner verification. With faster verification methods and stronger privacy controls, the government aims to make Aadhaar usage safer, simpler, and more convenient for millions of users across India.

Additionally, UIDAI has extended the free online Aadhaar document update facility through the myAadhaar portal until June 14, 2027, giving users more time to update their identity and address documents at no extra cost.
