Philips is returning to the smartphone spotlight in India with a new 5G phone. The company has teased a device with a 64MP camera, 120Hz display and up to 256GB storage. This is a very different proposition from Philips’ older smartphones.

    Philips Smartphone: Key Specifications Revealed

Philips has confirmed several specifications of its upcoming smartphone. The camera setup will be another major feature. The Philips smartphone will come with a 64MP primary rear camera. It will also have a 16MP front camera for selfies and video calls.

The phone will support 5G connectivity and will be available with different RAM and storage options. Buyers are expected to get up to 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage.

Here are the specifications revealed so far:

    • Display: 6.67-inch HD display
    • Refresh rate: 120Hz
    • Rear camera: 64MP primary camera
    • Front camera: 16MP selfie camera
    • RAM: 6GB and 8GB
    • Storage: 128GB and 256GB
    • Connectivity: 5G
    • Speakers: Dual stereo speakers
    • Protection: IP64 rating
    • Battery: Expected large-capacity battery

Philips is also highlighting dual stereo speakers on the phone. The company has used the “Ultra Max” branding for its audio feature. The IP64 rating should also offer protection against dust and water splashes.

The company has not yet revealed the complete hardware details. More information is likely to be announced closer to the India launch.

From Xenium to 5G: Philips is taking a different approach

This is where you briefly compare the past.

    • The older Philips Xenium W6610 focused heavily on battery life, with a 5,300mAh battery, 8MP camera and 5-inch qHD display.
    • The Philips Xenium I908 offered a 13MP rear camera, 2GB RAM, 32GB expandable storage and Android 4.4.
    • These specifications were competitive for their time, but they are far behind what Indian buyers expect from a smartphone today.
    • Philips eventually stopped offering several of these older models. Its India website currently lists the W6610 as unavailable.
    • The company also exited India earlier after having a limited portfolio focused mainly on feature phones, according to a 2014 interview with the company’s India team.

Why Philips SmartPhone Market Faces A Strong Competition In India

The price could be one of the biggest factors for the new Philips phone. The device is expected to launch below Rs 20,000, although Philips has not confirmed the price.

If priced in this range, the Philips 5G smartphone will compete with several established brands. Realme, Redmi, OnePlus, Oppo and Vivo already offer multiple phones in this segment.

The competition will be tough. Buyers in this price range now expect 5G connectivity, high-refresh-rate displays, capable cameras and large storage. Software updates and after-sales support are also becoming important factors.

Philips could benefit from its strong name in the consumer electronics market. The company already has a presence in several product categories in India. However, smartphones are a different market, and Philips will need competitive pricing and strong support to attract buyers.

The company is yet to reveal the official name, launch date and price of the device. For now, the 64MP camera, 120Hz display, 5G support and up to 256GB storage are the main confirmed highlights.

If Philips keeps the price below Rs 20,000, the new smartphone could become an interesting addition to India’s competitive budget 5G market.
