Oppo is one of the first phones which came up with a multicolour gradient finish and changed the standard colour finishes philosophy of smartphones. The Oppo R17 Pro comes with a dual finish with even the metal frame getting this finish. It makes the phone look funky. The right side of the phone keeps the power button while the left keeps the volume button. They are easy to reach. There are concave indentations in this design just like the Oppo Find X. The phone hosts the USB Type-C port at the bottom of them as well as the primary microphone port. However, it loses out on the headphone jack. It is about 7.9mm thick, which is quite easy to handle, and along with that, the phone has curved sides, which make it easy to hold.

While the R17 Pro looks a lot like OnePlus 6T, it does not have the same amount of power. The phone arrives with a Snapdragon 710 SoC which can be referred to as a bridging model between the mid-range Snapdragon 600 series and the premium Snapdragon 800 series. It is an octa-core processor and comes with 8 Kryo 360 CPU cores. The Oppo R17 Pro comes with 8GB RAM, helping with the app-switching area. It gets a score of 5932 on Geekbench multi-core tests. The GPU performance is excellent as it can handle games like PUBG Mobile without a stutter even at high settings. When you use it for apps, you can run multiple demanding apps and switch between them without experiencing any stutter, and that is due to the presence of 8GB RAM. The in-display scanner works beautifully. The handset also has a facial recognition feature, which is excellent too.
The R17 Pro arrives with two cameras along with a Time of Flight (TOF) 3D sensor. It has a 12MP primary camera which has apertures of f/1.5 and f/2.4, switching between them in different light conditions. However, you cannot handle in manually. Along with that, you have a 20MP camera for depth-sensing. In the app, you have Smart Beautification to activate AI. There is also a 3D sensor which can work well with it. In daylight, the phone was able to focus well, even on distant objects, and hence, the colour reproduction was accurate. Even the noise was kept low. Portrait modes turned out to be quite decent as well as the macro shots had proper edge definition. Even in low-light, the phone was able to capture beautiful shots due to the varying aperture. Night mode, however, kept the shutter open for far too long, delivering a watercolour effect.
The phone arrives with a big 25MP selfie camera. The selfie king has put in a lot of work on its selfie camera. The edge detection in the selfie camera is quite good. Plus, you can capture selfies in different conditions too.
In case of videos, the phone was able to click 4K videos with its primary camera, but the selfie shooter remained stuck at 1080p. The videos are quite good, and there is a reasonable amount of beautification present in it, which does not let it go artificial. You can always adjust it, even in the videos.
The R17 Pro comes with a unique dual 1850mAh battery which totals up to 3700 mAh. The battery was able to last for about 14 hours and 18 minutes during an HD video loop test. Moderate use of about 37 minutes of high-end gaming, Google Maps, video streaming, and active Whatsapp connection made it stay for more than a day. The phone also comes with SuperVOOC Flash Charger which can get the phone from 0 to 100% within half an hour! Within 15 minutes it gets up to 57% and 95% within 29-30 minutes. The phone gets slightly warm during fast charging, but it’s not intolerable. The FAST charging is one striking features of this phone.
The Oppo R17 Pro is a reliable phone with a funky design and a capable processor. Along with that, the phone has an insane charging speed. While it may not have the ability to get the processing speed of OnePlus 6T, the phone itself remains a decent model. It gives you all the premium settings at a lower price. The cameras on this phone are quite satisfactory. However, if you are more conscious about the value and want a real premium model, then trusty OnePlus 6T is your best bet.
