Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Design and Build
Design is at the centre of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8’s first impressions. The new shape brings a fresh feel and offers a better user experience for those who do not want a giant foldable phone.
It weighs just 201 grams, while its dimensions are 161.4 x 123.9 x 4.5 mm (unfolded) and 81.9 x 123.9 x 9.7 mm (folded). Thanks to its slim body, the phone offers an excellent grip. However, since it follows a notebook-style design, you cannot hold it as naturally as a standard smartphone with a 19:9 aspect ratio.
Overall durability has also improved with Gorilla Glass Victus Ceramic 3 protection on the front and an Advanced Armour Aluminium frame. Samsung has designed the phone beautifully, and the vertically aligned camera module looks similar to the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge.
The back panel also does not attract fingerprint smudges easily.
Lastly, Samsung has added an IP48 rating for dust and water resistance. This means the phone is protected against solid particles larger than 1mm and can survive immersion in up to 1.5 metres of fresh water for 30 minutes.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Camera
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 comes with a dual rear camera setup featuring a 50MP wide and 50MP ultrawide sensor. I clicked a lot of images, ranging from 0.6x ultrawide to 10x digital zoom.
I tested the camera in normal mode, portrait mode, indoor conditions, and open areas. The results were almost consistent across all these scenarios.
Images came out bright and vibrant, with rich colours. There was no extra saturation, artificial lighting, or excessive smoothness. Overall, I found the image quality quite natural and close to reality. You can also check my indoor and outdoor samples, including flower shots, which were captured beautifully.
Similarly, I captured a few portrait shots as well. The edge detection was accurate, while the background blur looked natural and gave the images an aesthetic look. However, in one low-light portrait, I noticed a slight issue with edge detection, as the phone struggled to separate the subject’s hand properly.
Overall, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8’s rear camera left a positive first impression. That said, I have not tested it in different scenarios such as night photography, harsh lighting conditions, running shots, and other challenging situations.
On the front, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 features a 10MP selfie camera, which delivers impressive results in good lighting conditions. You can also record 8K videos using the rear camera and 4K videos with the front camera.
However, I haven’t tested the video performance in real-life scenarios yet, as this is only my quick first impressions of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Display
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 features a foldable Dynamic LTPO AMOLED 2X display in two sizes: 7.6 inches when unfolded and 5.5 inches when folded. In the newer model, Samsung has introduced Flex Titanium technology, a specialised anti-reflective coating, and a snappier spring-loaded hinge mechanism that flattens the display, making the phone easier to open. The brand has also reduced the display crease, although it may still become more noticeable after prolonged use. 
Both displays share a few common specifications, including a 120Hz refresh rate. The inner display also supports HDR10+ and offers up to 3,000 nits of peak brightness.
During my Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 first impressions, I watched a few videos and songs at 2160p 60fps, and the viewing experience was excellent with much clearer visuals.
I found this phone to be one of the best choices for binge-watching content in the smartphone category, offering a more accessible experience than carrying a tablet. That said, its premium price will definitely be a deciding factor for many buyers.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Performance, Software and Battery
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 comes with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor for smooth performance. It is paired with 12GB of RAM and up to 1TB of internal storage. I found this phone impressive in day-to-day usage. I mostly used it for scrolling through social media, watching YouTube videos, and playing one BGMI gaming session.
Honestly, during my limited usage, I did not face any performance issues. However, it still needs to go through heavy-duty workloads and long gaming sessions before I can properly judge its overall performance.
On the software side, the phone runs Android 17-based One UI 9. Overall, the interface feels more polished and clutter-free. At this stage, I do not have much more to say, as I need to spend more time testing the new features and understanding the overall software experience in daily use.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 packs a 4,800mAh battery and supports 45W fast charging. It also supports 20W wireless charging and 4.5W reverse wireless charging.
At the moment, I cannot comment on the actual battery life or charging speed, as I have not tested them thoroughly. So, for now, I am relying on Samsung’s official claims that the Galaxy Z Fold8 can deliver up to 26 hours of continuous video playback.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 first impression is largely positive. Samsung has refined the Fold series with a slimmer design, better ergonomics, an immersive display, and smooth everyday performance. While the camera also delivers impressive results, I’ll reserve my final opinion until I test the battery, gaming, and long-term performance.
For now, the Galaxy Z Fold8 feels like Samsung’s most practical and refined foldable yet. If your budget allows, it already looks like a strong contender in the premium foldable segment.
