Redmi Y1 Lite has a 5.5-inch display with HD resolution with Corning Gorilla Glass protection. It runs on Android v7.1.1 (Nougat) OS and combines a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 processor clocked at 1.4GHz with 2GB RAM. Slam it all together and you get a lag-free experience with a power-packed performance.
The phone features a 13MP primary (rear) camera with an LED Flash and a 5MP secondary (front) camera. A 3,080mAh non-removable battery powers the phone. It has a 16GB inbuilt storage, expandable up to 128GB via microSD card. In India, Redmi Y1 Lite is priced at Rs. 6,999 with two beautiful colour variants – Gold and Dark Grey.
At just 150g, Redmi Y1 Lite is reasonably lightweight. The design is minimalistic but with a touch of elegance. As is true of Xiaomi phones, the functionality and usability quotients of Redmi Y1 Lite is excellent.
Redmi Y1 Lite sports a sleek and slim design. Although the body has a metallic sheen, it is actually made of plastic, unlike the metal-body design seen in Redmi 4 or Redmi Note 4. It is 7.5mm thick, 76.2mm wide, and 153mm in height. The rounded corners and matte finish body allow for a better grip. The phone does not feel too big, thereby facilitating one-hand usage. The camera is positioned on the top left corner of the back with the LED Flash just beside it. While the volume and power buttons lie on the right side of the frame, the SIM tray rests on the left. You will find the 3.5mm headphone jack on the top of the frame and the micro USB port on the bottom.
The 5.5-inch IPS LCD has a resolution of 720×1280 pixels (267 PPI) and an aspect ratio of 16:9. For protection from scratches and damage, the display has Corning Gorilla Glass protection. The screen has multi-touch capacitive feature and responds to subtle touches instantaneously.
Redmi Y1 Lite has Android v7.1.1 (Nougat) OS and runs on a Quad-Core Cortex A53 Snapdragon 425 processor paired with an Adreno 308 GPU. Together, they do perform well, enhancing the phone’s ability to handle multitasking and improving the gaming experience. The Antutu benchmark score for Redmi Y1 Lite is around 36000, which is not bad for a phone of this range and specs. Despite having 2GB RAM, the phone offers a smooth experience without showing any signs of lag.
As we mentioned before, the Redmi Y1 Lite features a 13MP rear camera with an f/2.2 aperture and a 5MP front camera with an f/2.0 aperture. For a phone priced at just 7k, the camera works decently with both the cameras capable of clicking good images with enough details. In bright light settings and outdoors, the camera can capture plenty of details with decent sharpness, but in low light environments, the camera performance is only average.
The rear camera has various options like Phase Detection Autofocus, Touch to focus, LED Flash, Auto Flash, Digital Zoom, High Dynamic Range (HDR) mode, Face detection, and Continuous Shooting, to name a few.
Xiaomi’s Redmi Y1 Lite packs a non-removable 3,080mAh Li-Po battery that can last pretty long hours with average to medium usage. However, if you are into intensive gaming, streaming, or browsing, you might see the battery charge drop faster.
It offers all the essential connectivity options including Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Wi-Fi Direct, Mobile Hotspot, Bluetooth v4.2, GPS (with A-GPS), USB OTG, Micro-USB, FM radio, 3G, and 4G support. Apart from this, the phone also has various sensors like Accelerometer, Ambient Light Sensor, Gyroscope, Proximity Sensor, and Magnetometer.
At just Rs. 6,999, you cannot expect Redmi Y1 Lite to match the power and specs of high-end phones. The budget-friendly phone does include some very nice features and will be perfect for you if you are looking for a device to fulfil your basic browsing, calling, and social media surfing needs. The phone never feels sluggish even while multitasking, which is a huge plus point. However, if you are ready to spend a few extra bucks, you can go for the Redmi Y1.
