Apple’s new iPhone 15 lineup has gone on sale globally, and the company claims the new Pro models are stronger due to the new titanium build. However, the Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max fails the durability test of popular YouTuber JerryRigEverything, making it the first iPhone to fail this test in a decade.
iPhone 15 Pro Max Becomes First iPhone In A Decade To Fail Durability Test
The YouTuber first subjected the phone to the scratch test, which the phone passed due to its Ceramic Shield glass on the back. The iPhone scratches at level 6 with deeper groves on level 7 based on the Moh scale of durability. Zack claims the scratches on level 6 are a little fainter than usual due to the scratch resistance of the Ceramic Glass shield.

Even the Titanium chassis can get scratches easily, just like the Anodized Aluminum on older iPhone models. The only exception is the 5G antenna slot, which did not get any scratches.

However, the iPhone 15 Pro Max cracks immediately when the YouTuber performs a bend test of the device. The device breaks within 5 seconds of the test by applying very little pressure.
This results in a crack in the phone’s back glass and the camera island on the back. It is surprising because the titanium chassis on the iPhone 15 Pro models has nearly three times more tensile strength than aluminium.
The last iPhone model to fail the test was the infamous Apple iPhone 6 Plus in 2016. This resulted in the bend gate controversy, where the phone started bending in half when people kept it in their pockets or applied a little force. The reason was attributed to the poor aluminium build of the phone.

iPhone 15 Pro Max Is Easier To Repair Than Previous Year’s Models
The cost of repairing the back glass of the iPhone 15 Pro Max is Rs.16,900 in India and Rs.2,500 if you have Apple Care+. Due to the removable back glass, this cost is cheaper than the outgoing iPhone 14 series. The YouTuber advises viewers to repair the phone at the Apple service centre in case of a crack.
Jerry expresses shock at how poorly the iPhone 15 Pro Max fares in the durability test, given the phone’s higher price tag and premium build. Thus, he concludes the iPhone 15 Pro Max fails the durability test.
He also performs the bend test on the Apple iPhone 15 Pro, but the phone survives the test with no cracks and bends. The iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max start at Rs.1,34,900 and Rs.1,59,900, respectively.
