WhatsApp brings a bootload of features no doubt. It is working on a new feature that will be available on the application soon. A report by WABetaInfo stated that a search by date feature is being tested in its earliest alpha stage of development. This feature significantly improves the efficiency of searching a message or files or photos sent or received on any particular given date. For now, the known methods to search for an old message are either by manually scrolling through the chats in a chat window of a particular user or you can search for any words to retrieve a whole list of messages.

According to a report by News18, this method can be used by employees at the workplace to search for work histories and message backlogs on a particular date and so on. This is also significant as users will be able to search for messages, files, and other content for better workplace communication. However, this could also raise the eyebrows of IT and administrative departments overlooking workplace messaging.

The ‘search by date’ feature is at the alpha stage of development and has been reported on iOS as of now. Note that this doesn’t mean that the feature will not arrive on Android as Facebook-owned WhatsApp doesn’t believe in parity between the two operating systems. Apparently, WhatsApp hasn’t confirmed the date when the feature will be available so we are left with waiting until the feature is rolled out.
