Apple iPhone 12, one of the four iPhones to be released this year, brings an enormous upgrade over its predecessors. It is equipped with a hefty 6.1” OLED panel just like its Pro variants along with a powerful A14 chipset. The device makes a huge splash with its latest iOS 14 out-of-the-box. It sports a dual-camera setup taken from its Pro variant with the differences being with the battery size, display size, number of lens, and a few other things when compared with the Pro variants.

The iPhone 12 64GB has a price tag of $799, 128GB is at $849, and 256GB is available at $949 although the entry-level iPhone 12 could also be available at $749. iPhone 12 is the next-gen successor to iPhone 11. Apparently, Apple has completely overhauled the design with the 2020 iPhones with an aluminium frame. The design resembles much like the iPhone 4 with a boxy appearance with curved edges with front OLED and back glass design. It will be using a grooving and injection moulding method for the metal frame. Overall, iPhone 12 will have a few design tweaks on the way such as a bit larger camera lens, a lowered power button, Smart Connector on the right, and others.
The iPhone 12 sports a high-quality 6.1-inch OLED display sourced from Samsung Display. It uses Y-OCTA integrated touch and boasts a resolution of 2532×1170 pixels. The display sports an adaptive refresh rate as well. Moreover, the notch is there and it is of the same size as the other two ‘Pro’ variants.
Being the next-gen iPhone 12, the phone sports a powerful Apple A14 Bionic chipset manufactured by China’s TSMC on a 5nm manufacturing node. The chipset is smaller, power-efficient, and faster when compared to the A13 chipset producing a 30% reduction in power consumption and an overall increase of 15% in performance which is phenomenal. The chipset will be tasked with handling all the AR tasks that Apple has been working on for a long time.
Further, the iPhone 12 packs in a 4GB RAM while the storage is at usual 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB although you cannot expand it. Moreover, iPhone 12 will come preloaded with the latest iOS 14 and unlike any Android devices, Apple will provide software support for iPhone 12 for at least 5 years if not less.
Like every year, the iPhone 12 will share its camera setup with its Pro siblings although it will have a dual-camera after eliminating the telephoto sensor. The front has a 12MP primary snapper while the rear setup includes a 12MP primary sensor with an aperture of f/1.8, dual pixel PDAF, OIS paired along with a 12MP ultrawide sensor with an aperture of f/2.2. Overall, the iPhone 12 is capable of shooting videos at 4K resolution at 24/30/60fps yanking it up to 240 fps with 1080p resolution.
The battery is one of the most crucial factors that people look for when buying a phone. The iPhone 12 packs in a 2,775 mAh battery which is more than 1500 mAh less than the iPhone 12 Pro Max.
iPhone 12 is not the entry-level model in the iPhone 12 series as there’s an iPhone 12 mini ahead of it. The phone takes most of its specifications from its Pro variant including the chipset, display tech, camera setup, and others. Although slightly expensive from someone upgrading from an Android to an iPhone but once you get used to it, there’s no looking back unless you have a problem with its battery life.
