One of the best methods for preventing water damage is to take precautions beforehand using a waterproof pouch for situations where you know you might be making close contact with water.

If it is already too late and your phone has taken an unexpected dip in the water, there might be some steps you can take to reduce the chances of damage. If the smartphone has already been damaged, then there might be a high chance that the damage is permanent. Method 1: Use a Vacuum Cleaner to Dry it up

There might be places that the towel can not access, while we told you not to blow anything into the phone, it might be a good choice to use suction to get the water out. Vacuum Cleaner can such off bits of water from the phone without too much risk. Make sure that the suction is not too excessive and try finding a small vacuum cleaner instead of a full-size one to increase the ease of use.

Method 2: Disassemble the Water Damaged Phone

If you own a smartphone that can be opened up, then the first thing to do to a water-damaged smartphone then it might be a good choice to take it apart. Remove everything that is user-removable, if your back cover is removable then take it off, if the battery is removable, take it off, the same applies to the SIM card and the SD Card. If you have experience and knowledge of tech and do not mind voiding your warranty, then you might also want to take the whole phone apart as it might help with drying up individual parts separately.

The next step is to dry the exterior with a paper towel or tissue, it is important to get rid of all the excess water found in the exterior of your smartphone. Use the paper towel to dry out every component, but make sure you do not mess with the phone too much and only gently dry up everything out without moving things around too much.

The hardest part is to dry the smartphone, it involves leaving the phone untouched for an extended period of time. This means that you can not use your smartphone for a while. If you have another smartphone that you can borrow and put to use, then that might really help. Ensure that your SIM card is completely dried out before using it on another smartphone.

The best way to dry out a phone could just be by leaving it on top of the counter or inside a drawer, but some methods can give a little help. The idea is to put it in an environment easing the drying process, a very common practice is to put the phone in a Ziplock bag full of rice and let it rest there for two or three days. There are alternatives to rice that might be more effective too, among many options are Silica Gel Packs which are little packets commonly found in shoes or electronics boxes. It is not common to have access to it, but you can generally get it on Amazon for a good deal.


Once you have done everything and have had a few days to pass by, it is time to see if all your efforts have paid off. Take the phone out of the bag that you left it in and put it back together. Now plug in the phone and try to turn it on. If it turns on, then you might have succeeded with the attempt and you will be able to use the phone for a little longer than you had expected. Make sure that the microphone and speakers are working well by making a phone call.
