The Huawei Mate X was only available in one configuration: 8GB RAM + 512GB internal storage. Despite being introduced in 2019 as a fantastic folding phone by Huawei, it never made it to the Indian market. However, if you want a foldable phone, the Samsung Z fold 3 is the one to get your hands on.

Mate 10 is a big phone but its beefiness is definitely not a drawback. The phone is metal framed and has a glass-fronted and backed body.  Coated with Corning Gorilla Glass curving around the edges, it has a nice grip and feels good when held. The screen is impressive in size, below it is the fingerprint scanner and above it is the front camera and speaker, and the power & volume buttons are on the right. At the base is a USB C port and at the top, 3.5MM headphone jack. It’s slick design and headphone jack gives it an edge over its competitors in this price range. It has a dual SIM system and a MicroSD card slot which can be shared with the SIM slot. However, Mate 10cs IP3 splash-proof rating means it can only survive a drizzle and not complete water immersion. 

The screen is a 5.9-inch QHD IPS LCD panel, which may sound small but Mate 10’s traditional 16:9 aspect ratio the display actually seems larger than others. The viewing angles are also terrific. IPS screen technology provides flavourful colours and great graphics.

Mate 10 uses Android 8.0, ‘Oreo’ and can be updated to ‘Pie’. It is also powered with Huawei’s own user interface, EMUI 8. Supplemented with 4GB of RAM, the octa-core Kirin 970 and Mate 10 proves to be fast and efficient when it comes to multi-tasking, rendering high definition graphics etc. So far so good.

The Mate 10 has dual cameras, one with a 12MP colour (RGB) sensor paired with optical image stabilization (OIS). The second camera has a 20MP black and white (monochrome) sensor and no OIS and a selfie camera of 8MP. Some of its many features are Dual LED Dual Tone flash, Panorama, HDR etc. The phone does a good job of cancelling noise and maintaining detail. It also proves to be exceptionally good at low light photography. It also has the AI zoom feature. Rear cameras can record videos at 4K resolution and front camera at 1080p.

Unsurprisingly, Huawei Mate 10’s 4000 mAh battery is long-lasting and powerful. Although there is the drawback of no wireless charging, the phone can survive a day of medium to heavy usage easily. 

Huawei Mate 10 proves to be everything but not an underdog. It is perhaps one of Huawei’s most top-notch flagship products. It’s a powerful phone with a simple interface, top-tier technology and a sleek design which makes its price tag justifiable. However, its limited availability may make it difficult to obtain in the first place. But if you still choose to buy it, it is most definitely a valuable purchase.  If wireless charging and strong water resistance don’t sound like deal-breakers to you, Mate 10 is made for you!
